SlimCharles 2 Posted June 16, 2025 Posted June 16, 2025 Not to dredge up a super old topic, dealing with this issue now. I'll tag my music with Picard, but literally 2-3 days later, if I do a scan for new files in my music library, it clears out the artists tag. Not sure if it defaults reading Artist instead of Artists, but I have to go back and re-tag all my music once a week (which gets really really old for CDs I ripped 25-30 years ago).

One thing that does help if using MP3Tag is to use \\ for the artist separation but even after setting that embedded, I still have quite a few tracks that lose the artist information.

What I've found generally is that Emby usually prioritizes your music embedded metadata tags and will overwrite anything in your Emby database that conflicts, but not always. Do you use MusicBrainz IDs? These can sometimes cause issues if there are discrepancies. Do you have Discogs or MusicBrainz Artist Metadata Downloaders switched on? This could be what is messing up your Artists??? Beyond that, can you give a specific example of exactly what is happening? Is it just Artists missing from certain tracks? Otherwise it's a bit difficult to suggest anything else specific to try... Screenshots can also help! Edited June 16, 2025 by user24 1
Luke 42077 Posted June 16, 2025 Posted June 16, 2025 @SlimCharles HI there, can you please provide a specific example? How to Report a Problem Thanks !
Happy2Play 9780 Posted June 17, 2025 Posted June 17, 2025 In the end we would need to see what ffprobe shows for the track of something you say is being lost. ffprobe -i "path" -show_streams -print_format json
SlimCharles 2 Posted June 17, 2025 Author Posted June 17, 2025 I did some research on my end and found that Synology and Asustor will let any user access the Recycle Bin share set up in each folder. Changed to only allow root to access and got my ID tag problem fixed. Just in case you have anybody else reporting the same issues.... 1

SlimCharles 2 Posted June 24, 2025 Author Posted June 24, 2025 As an addendum to this in case anybody else has the same issues I was, what ended up fixing me (going on 8 days now so feel it's fixed) : I had Lidarr running on another docker and when it was updated, it has a setting to sync with MusicBrainz. So every 24 hours, it was going through and resetting all my ID3 tags. What was frustrating was I had it locked on Emby and it still changed ; anyway, love using Emby! Appreciate all ya'll. 1
