Jey2024 33 Posted June 14, 2025 Posted June 14, 2025 Hi Guys, I just need some clarification and proper configuration when it comes to subtitles. So im watching a series now. It seems to be that one external SRT is downloaded which is totally out of sync but the inbuilt sub is working correctly (that's what i assume). See this screenshot - PGSSUB is the one which is working correctly. However, whenever a new episode starts, "English (SRT)" is automatically selected. Then I need to switch back to PGSSUB. This is the screenshot of my episodes subtitle settings: This is why I assumed SRT is getting downloaded again. Questions: 1. How can I set it so that it won't download a separate SRT when there is an existing subtitle with the episode? 2. How can I remove all the SRT's from the existing season folders where the episodes comes with inbuilt subtitles? These are my TV library subtitle settings : I assume I need to enable "Skip if the video already contains embedded subtitles matching the download language" is that correct? but I'm not understanding this description clearly "Keeping text versions of subtitles will result in more efficient delivery and decrease the likelihood of video transcoding." can someone explain please? more importantly how to I remove the existing SRTs? Can I run a scheduled Job, or should I just access the server via SSH and use a rm command to filter our .srt files and remove them? Just to let you know, I don't download any episodes in 4k resolution. I only use 720p or 1080p encodes. Thanks

Correct, this is the option you want. Typically "text" based subs like SRT are preferred, as they are more widely supported on most devices. Whereas "image" based subs like PGS have limited support on devices and may sometimes require "burn-in" to display them on unsupported devices, this in turn causes transcoding of the stream, which is undesired for many. If your TV device happily supports PGS subs, then you should have no issues enabling this option, skipping the download of SRT when there are already embedded subs. 31 minutes ago, Jey2024 said: how to I remove the existing SRTs? Thank you. I only use chrome web browser or android phone app to watch series. So I guess I will disable the SRT download option. Thank you
Lessaj 467 Posted June 14, 2025 Posted June 14, 2025 Chrome will always require transcoding for PGS subs, your android device probably won't though.
