Dolby vision tonemapping + large file remote play issues

Hello, I'm not sure the right forum for this but since my server is on Windows I'll start here. These also may be 2 separate issues.

I have a beelink mini PC with an Intel N100. My server is hardwired, I have like 850mbps upload speed on the server, running USB connected DAS (3 18tb EXOs drives attached with USB 3.1).

Green / pink playback

My main issue is when I play Dolby vision HDR files, with transcoding of any kind, I get a green / pink hue to the playback. The stats for nerds overlay indicates hardware transcoding. I have tonemapping enabled (default settings, though I've tried different methods and algorithms).

The two clients I can verify this on are a Roku TV (1080p) and my iPhone 16 pro. On the Roku TV, it will buffer like crazy as well.

I have no issues direct playing on compatible 4k HDR hardware on local network, both in speed and the right colors.

4k playback lag

I'm not sure if this is related but my other issue is playing some files direct play spike my CPU usage and buffer on the client -- there's a 4k HDR 10 video that on dedicated app MacOS (Macbook Air M2) client plays for a few seconds, buffers, plays for a few seconds, buffers on remote network.

I'm attaching the tonemapping log and a screen shot from the ios issue (roku looks the same). I think the direct play issue log has been pushed out -- if it seems unrelated I can make a new thread.

Let me know if I can provide any more information or clarify. Thank you!

It's recommended to provide more info, as it explain in this thread:

Thank you.

Pure DV (profile 5) cannot be transcoded. The reason for transcode is:

TranscodeReasons=ContainerBitrateExceedsLimit

Try increasing the bitrate to a higher value (4k 40 Mbps probably, or higher of course) so that it can try to direct play.

Oh well that's pretty straightforward isn't it? Thanks.

I don't think I can direct play on many clients because they don't support the format. I should just avoid these files if I want to have maximum compatibility across devices?

Yes most likely. DV+HDR is fine to be transcoded though, as well as just HDR. I much prefer DV and it seems devices that support both will prefer to use the DV metadata, at least my LG TV does, so having a hybrid file with both would be ideal if what you're trying to achieve is generalized HDR compatible playback.

I am getting the same "pink" and/or "green" issue.

I'm viewing on a chrome browser, when I see the problem.

When I view inside the EMBY windows store app, it looks fine, as well as on my TV.
