Tone Mapping issue

Hello,

I am using hardware acceleration for transcoding which works spot on, but I don't have the option for hardware Tone mapping? Just software.

Server Specs:

Windows

CPU: I7 9700

GPU: RX 570 4GB

I presume it's because my hardware doesn't support it?

Would anyone be able to help?

Cheers!

Hi, You have an AMD Radeon Graphics and there's no hardware tone mapping support for AMD GPUs.

AFAIK that's hasn't changed.

HI, we'll have an updated ffmpeg build on the server beta channel in the near future, so stay tuned.

OOOH i look forward to that!!

For the time being i've enabled the intergrated gpu on CPU in BIOS to get it to work. as a workaround for time being.

So GPU is priority but anything it cant do, it dumps it to the CPU to do.

Thank you! :)

Just a heads up, your integrated graphics are far superior to your video card in regards to transcode speed and quality. Intel Quicksync is the king when it comes to these things. If you do insist on using a graphics card I would suggest you just get an Arc A310 or A380 and ditch the ancient Polaris space heater.

Yeah - to be honest i hardly use transcoding it's 99% direct play but the GPU was a good deal thats the only reason i have it lol

Hey Luke,

Sorry to hijack the thread but I googled, searched forums and the support section of the website - I can't find a support article / matrix for tone mapping. What platforms is it supported on? What OSes?

Also, I currently use an AMD 7800XT on Linux, in docker. It seems to be doing hardware transcoding, and tone mapping somehow. Is it done in software in a different step? Can it be that it's being done with VAAPI?

I'd love more documentation on this.

Thanks,

Disabling the gpu at the BIOS will often lead to Windows not loading some GPU drivers. It isn't recommended to do that.
