gascolator 1 Posted June 10, 2025 Posted June 10, 2025 I've recently discovered an issue where artwork is missing on some series on our Apple TVs. When I log into the server (Windows), and look at the content there, there is no artwork missing. Any ideas on where to begin troubleshooting? -Matt-
Luke 42077 Posted June 10, 2025 Posted June 10, 2025 HI there, can you please provide a specific example? How to Report a Problem Thanks !
gascolator 1 Posted June 19, 2025 Author Posted June 19, 2025 Thanks for the response and sorry for the delay on mine. I've been a bit under the weather. Attached are two pictures. One of what I'm seeing on the Apple TV and one of what I'm seeing if I login on via a browser. -Matt-
Luke 42077 Posted June 23, 2025 Posted June 23, 2025 @gascolatorin the web app can you right click unit 9 lesson 1, then select edit images. Can you please show us what that looks like? Thanks.
gascolator 1 Posted June 24, 2025 Author Posted June 24, 2025 Disregard that last picture, I selected the wrong series. Below is what I see.
gascolator 1 Posted June 25, 2025 Author Posted June 25, 2025 On the unit 9 lesson 1 video in the web app.
gascolator 1 Posted June 26, 2025 Author Posted June 26, 2025 Just passing along this troubleshooting step I tried. I went into the web app to a unit that was missing images on the Apple TVs. For this scenario, unit 9 lesson 2 (image shows up on web app but not Apple TV). I right clicked the unit and selected edit images. I then right clicked the primary image and clicked open in new window. I dragged the image that opened in the new window to the desktop to save it. I then went back to the edit images window, deleted the primary image, added the one I just saved to the desktop and then saved it. This made the image show back up on the Apple TV.
Luke 42077 Posted June 28, 2025 Posted June 28, 2025 I'm wondering if the image was not actually assigned to that item but rather some other item and it was just being inherited?
gascolator 1 Posted June 29, 2025 Author Posted June 29, 2025 I don't use any inheritance. Cover images are always assigned. I also don't think that would explain cover images being correct on the web app and missing on the Apple TVs. It's also not just cover images. Certain images files aren't displaying on the Apple TVs as well but show up fine in the web app.

What I'm suggesting is that it might be happening without you realizing it. Quote I also don't think that would explain cover images being correct on the web app and missing on the Apple TVs. It would actually because the apple tv might be missing something that the web app has added. Actually I think this is the most likely answer.
runtimesandbox 171 Posted July 23, 2025 Posted July 23, 2025 (edited) I have the exact same issue with a new apple TV unit - all cover art is missing (see attached image) - all display fine in the web app First time using an apple TV so unsure of next steps to debug This is what i see when i click edit images in the web app Edited July 23, 2025 by runtimesandbox
runtimesandbox 171 Posted July 23, 2025 Posted July 23, 2025 (edited) I've checked my nginx proxy logs and all looks to be normal here, i can see the apple tv requesting the artwork as expected <external-ip> - - [23/Jul/2025:19:42:34 +0000] "GET /emby/Items/4761602/Similar?userId=<user-id>&ImageTypeLimit=1&fields=BasicSyncInfo%2CCanDelete%2CPrimaryImageAspectRatio%2CProductionYear%2CStatus%2CEndDate&limit=12&includeItemTypes=&GroupProgramsBySeries=true&EnableTotalRecordCount=false&X-Emby-Client=Emby+for+Apple+TV&X-Emby-Device-Name=Apple+TV&X-Emby-Device-Id=<device-id>&X-Emby-Client-Version=2.0.0+%284%29&X-Emby-Token=<token> HTTP/1.1" 200 2310 "-" "Emby/4 CFNetwork/3826.500.131 Darwin/24.5.0" attached a fresh server log with debug mode enabled embyserver-debug-log.txt Edited July 23, 2025 by runtimesandbox attach server log

Are the image requests reaching your reverse proxy?
runtimesandbox 171 Posted July 24, 2025 Posted July 24, 2025 (edited) All other clients (android, Nvidia shield, iOS, web app) are accessing through the same reverse proxy without issue. I can provide a full nginx log if useful Edited July 24, 2025 by runtimesandbox
Luke 42077 Posted July 24, 2025 Posted July 24, 2025 Are the image requests from Apple TV reaching your reverse proxy?
runtimesandbox 171 Posted July 25, 2025 Posted July 25, 2025 it doesn't look like any image requests do hit the reverse proxy awk '/Emby\+for\+Apple\+TV/ && /image/' /var/log/nginx/emby_access.log returns no results
Luke 42077 Posted July 26, 2025 Posted July 26, 2025 OK if you're able to, please send a PM to @SamESwith your server url, along with a username and password so that he can test it. Thanks.
