Goatmaster 2 Posted June 7, 2025 Posted June 7, 2025 Hi everyone, I’m just curious how the messaging system in Emby Server works. When I send messages to users from the dashboard, especially users who are using the web client, they usually don’t seem to notice or receive them. It’s not really a problem, more of a question out of interest. I’m wondering: Are messages only shown during playback? Does the web client support all types of messages (like popups or toasts)? Are there differences in how messages show up between web and other clients (like Android TV or mobile apps)? Is there a delay, or do users need to be in a certain part of the interface to see them? In the logs I do see a line like this when sending a message: Info App: Entry point completed: Emby.Notifications.NotificationManagerEntryPoint. Duration: 0.0105766 seconds So it looks like something is being triggered, but I’m not sure what happens after that or where it should appear for the user. Just trying to understand what the expected behavior is and how other users are using this feature effectively. 1
Luke 42077 Posted June 25, 2025 Posted June 25, 2025 Hi, this is likely due to the fact that it is displayed as a toast with no option to control the timeout length. So that's something that we need to look at expanding upon.
Yageornba 1 Posted September 24, 2025 Posted September 24, 2025 I usually send messages through the dashboard by starting a scheduled task and choosing the message type. Clients just get a pop-up or notification depending on what I picked.

Yageornba 1 Posted October 10, 2025 Posted October 10, 2025 (edited) I tested it by sending a message to another user from my server, and it worked like a basic text messaging system. The message showed up in their dashboard right away, and they could reply directly. If they were watching something, they still got the message without any issue. It's pretty useful for quick communication between shared users without needing to leave Emby. Edited October 10, 2025 by Yageornba 1
