Steve E 2 Posted June 4, 2025 Posted June 4, 2025 (edited) Emby 4.8.11.0 + win 11 + hd homerun for live tv Whats the right way to manage the "transcoding temporary files" folder? Files keep piling up in them until switching the channel off I tried this emby server > live tv > advanced > live stream buffer size limit (hours) - set at 1 emby server > transcoding > transcoding temporary path - set and excluded in realtime anti virus scans Thanks Edited June 4, 2025 by Steve E
Luke 42078 Posted June 4, 2025 Posted June 4, 2025 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
Steve E 2 Posted June 5, 2025 Author Posted June 5, 2025 I reviewed your live tv setup docs https://emby.media/support/articles/Live-TV.html https://emby.media/support/articles/HDHomeRun-Setup.html The homerun and tv guide work fine, and picture beautiful, but I didnt find instructions for cache management I set these in the admin gui to keep the trancoding temp files to an hour emby server > transcoding > transcoding temporary path - set and excluded in windows realtime anti virus scans emby server > live tv > advanced > live tv buffer size - set at 1 hr I'd like to set it for size rather than hours, but dont see a setting for that Then clicked on a channel and watched something In the transcoding temp folder two directories were made The one with the long number works fine - after an hour the oldest files start disappearing The other one keeps growing Either I did something wrong, or something's not working right
Luke 42078 Posted June 5, 2025 Posted June 5, 2025 Quote The other one keeps growing OK that one is specific to the playback transcoding, not the actual live stream. Currently for playback transcoding of live tv, these segments don't get cleaned up until playback has finished, but this is something we plan to improve on in upcoming updates. For playback transcoding of non-live tv content, that does support cleaning out segments during playback. Live TV is just a little bit more complex so it hasn't been added there yet. Thanks.

Solution Luke 42078 Posted June 5, 2025 Solution Posted June 5, 2025 11 minutes ago, Neminem said: Hmm that's confusing ?? why is that setting in Live TV section ?? If it does not control that ? There's two transcoding temp entries. One is for the shared buffer, and this does support the size limit. That's what that option applies to. Then there is one for active playback session of that buffer. 1
