RRo100 10 Posted June 2, 2025 Posted June 2, 2025 Hello, I bought a new LG OLED65G48LW and have the same problem as with my older model. I'm using Emby for LG TVs 1.0.46. For example, if I activate the "German Forced" subtitle for the movie "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" in 4K, Emby simply freezes. It seems that the LG's performance isn't sufficient, which I can't imagine. My old Fire TV 4 Max responds much faster and doesn't have any problems with the subtitles either. Perhaps the code for the LG app needs to be optimized.

What kind of subs are those (PGSSUB, ASS...)? What kind of a machine/platform your server runs on? Wild guess would be subs format triggers transcoding and your server can't keep up, but without logs it's guesswork only. how to report a media playback issue

RRo100 10 Posted June 9, 2025 Author Posted June 9, 2025 Hello, I've attached the requested log files. I've been looking into the issue a bit more, and it's not just affecting 4K movies. I've had no problems with the Fire TV Stick (both the old and new clients). So I've ruled out a performance issue with my NAS. PS: The Plex client also has no issues on the LG TV, so the LG's performance should be sufficient. I hope this helps me find the error; I really enjoy using Emby. embyserver.txt ffmpeg-transcode-1a043975-a115-4635-863c-96c0192ba77f_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-1aed0a17-4974-4bab-bf4a-66d97b91296f_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-6c5ae925-dd32-4686-b4f2-c1397b8ad41c_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-505e792f-d5f2-49ab-8122-13565b728e50_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-463861fb-351d-4b43-8f53-7c54431b75f9_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-e3fd0ff5-decd-41ea-b7f3-6b9100fbfeee_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-f3b3785c-857c-4621-a1a5-6d2bc5c437f4_1.txt
SamES 1056 Posted June 9, 2025 Posted June 9, 2025 Can you check that this folder exists and is writeable by the emby process? /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/EmbyServer/programdata/transcoding-temp/
RRo100 10 Posted June 10, 2025 Author Posted June 10, 2025 Hello, Yes, the directory exists and the permissions seem to be OK.
SamES 1056 Posted June 10, 2025 Posted June 10, 2025 Looks like transcoding is too slow, if the transcoding speed less than 1x speed then it's slower than the normal playback speed and will fail. I don't think it will help, but you can try turning of Hardware Acceleration, just in case it is causing a problem. Can you please check this setting as well? If it is off, please try turning it on (and select save at the bottom of the page)
RRo100 10 Posted June 14, 2025 Author Posted June 14, 2025 Where do I set this setting? I can't find it. What's too slow, the LG TV?

RRo100 10 Posted June 17, 2025 Author Posted June 17, 2025 The "extraction on the fly" setting was already enabled. What I don't understand is that everything works fine on all other devices. It also works on the LG TV with PLEX, so it must have something to do with the Emby-LG app. I had the same problem with my previous LG TV, and I suspected that the connection wasn't strong enough, but the new TV behaves the same way.
Luke 42077 Posted July 12, 2025 Posted July 12, 2025 @RRo100can you try again with Emby for LG 1.0.47 and let us know how things compare? Thanks !
JoeAverage92 6 Posted July 15, 2025 Posted July 15, 2025 Hi I have the same problem with pgs subtitles of UHD files and LG App including 1.0.47. When pgs sub is enabled, the server starts transcoding (no problem with external sub).

RRo100 10 Posted November 23, 2025 Author Posted November 23, 2025 Hi Luke, the subtitles are forced. They are displayed in places, but the movie stops playing when you fast-forward. Could it be that the development for LG TVs is only tested with an emulator? If you own an LG TV, you could try playing a movie or series with forced subtitles. My Fire TV Stick has no problem with it. How do I find the subtitle format?
Luke 42077 Posted November 24, 2025 Posted November 24, 2025 But I think what this still comes down to is that you're not getting fast enough transcoding, right? 1
RRo100 10 Posted January 30 Author Posted January 30 Hello, thank you so much for fixing the subtle issue. It works perfectly!! 4.10.0.1-beta Pre-release Fix subtitle encoding regression with LG TVs 1
