mark19721964 13 Posted May 31, 2025 Posted May 31, 2025 Question: Is it normal when playing audio files for the screen to just stay static (not moving) no blur, no screen saver at all? I have the roku screen saver set for five minutes. If inactive on Emby it will kick in....but if on the "now playing" the screen stays the same for hours. I've done some reading (b4 posting this) and I read Emby does not have a screen saver, but will instead blur the screen or something... just curious why I'm not seeing that? Firestick 4k max = same... However, on the firestick, the screensaver does come on if I leave the audio playing, but back out of "now playing" ... but if I do that, the firestick will stop playing after an hour or two and just gives me a "no signal" screen....but that doesn't happen if I leave it on "now playing" the only workaround I have is my tv has a blank screen feature which I can enable.
ebr 16169 Posted June 1, 2025 Posted June 1, 2025 Hi. The Roku audio player shows the current audio queue with the current item enlarged in the middle. This will advance as the queue plays. Can you show a screenshot of what you are talking about?
mark19721964 13 Posted June 1, 2025 Author Posted June 1, 2025 Each show is around 2.5 to 3 hours... what you see is how it stays during the entire show...only changing slightly as it advances. Same artwork, different title
ebr 16169 Posted June 1, 2025 Posted June 1, 2025 Ah, okay, you are playing a long-form recorded podcast. Not sure what else we would do in that case. Doesn't the web app also just show that for the duration?
mark19721964 13 Posted June 1, 2025 Author Posted June 1, 2025 Yep the entire show is what you see in the pic on roku and firestick... I remember when I had plex and played these shows, the plex screen saver would come on after some time... I just found it odd that it stayed that way the entire time so just making sure I wasn't crazy.... I can always just turn on black screen function on my tv 1

But I do see a possible way to do this correctly. When on the audio player "now playing" screen do not allow the screensaver to activate. When on the Photo View do not allow the screensaver to activate. When either of those is exited and no longer visible allow the screensaver to activate. Doing it this way would make the most sense. Once you navigate off the now playing screen music plays in the background and the screensaver can activate. But keep in mind the music will not progress to the next track. The music will stop at the end of the track since the Emby applet object no longer has focus. The screensaver gains focus and does not allow other objects to run anything. So we figured okay. We cannot do it that way. We need to always retain focus on our app to keep the music going. We can eventually add moving backgrounds and images to the audio "now playing" screensaver of the Roku. Once we revamp that area of the app. The web app needs to add motion backgrounds during audio playback and some type of image animation bounce or something. That way people with OLED TV aren't having to blank their screens manually to prevent the burn in. I totally understand the reasoning. Just showing why it hasn't been done yet. To maintain parity among the apps all must do similar things on each screen. You can make a feature request for motion backgrounds/images while viewing the now playing screensaver of the audio player. That would be my suggestion to gain traction of it the fastest. On the Audio Player "queue" screen. After 45 seconds of no remote usage the Audio Player "now playing" screen comes on. This screen is what we call the screensaver. This should contain movement and color changes that flicker through or something to keep the pixels from maintain static positions. I agree. But we need to start at the web app. Edited July 16, 2025 by speechles
Luke 42077 Posted July 26, 2025 Posted July 26, 2025 @mark19721964does this help answer your question?
mark19721964 13 Posted July 26, 2025 Author Posted July 26, 2025 It does answer my question kind of. I mean never saw any type of screen saver even navigating away from the "now playing" screen as the file still played. I actually tried that and the screen stayed static no matter what screen I was on, "now playing" or otherwise.. As the user above said, if navigating away from the now playing screen, it will NOT progress to the next track. That too is a bummer. not the end of the world as I found a workaround by simple selection "blank screen" on the actual TV... but this can be closed or marked as solved
