zac115 5 Posted May 28, 2025 Posted May 28, 2025 Something very odd is going on with the metadata and the cataloging of my emby server. As I update one piece on my server something odd has happened. Specifically a handful of episodes have been incorrectly placed in both season 1 and season 21. Episode 1074 through 1,085 show up in season 1 and season 21. Even after editing the .nfo file to season 21 for some reason it still shows up in season 1. I even went as far as completely removing the files and the NFO files and then re-adding them and and then editing the metadata through the option in the right click menu. But neither avenue prevented them from showing up in season 1. It's very strange behavior and I'm not exactly sure how to fix it.
Luke 42078 Posted May 28, 2025 Posted May 28, 2025 Hi, are you able to use a supported naming convention? TV Naming
zac115 5 Posted May 28, 2025 Author Posted May 28, 2025 (edited) i mean that would take a lot of renaming. And just to point out the rest of one piece works just fine. its all in the right place. And like some anime one piece does not really have seasons. they are in the season they are in because i put them there by hand based on what TVDB has. bringing me back to original problem of why these will not go where they are set. but if all other trouble shotting fails yes i will start the long task of renaming them. pwhodges 2012 Posted May 29, 2025 Posted May 29, 2025 As your files are named using absolute numbering, have you told Emby to use the absolute ordering? Paul

zac115 5 Posted May 31, 2025 Author Posted May 31, 2025 so i remembered that i could do this via the app as well. but changing that setting did not work. in fact it made it even worse. all the one piece items are in season one now. could this also be due to the metedata DB that im using? should i only be using one? i have the 3 selected for Anime so could this be confusing emby on where is should be placing things? zac115 5 Posted June 1, 2025 Author Posted June 1, 2025 this is what im wanting. but like i said once swapping to the aired order is puts all the eps in the season 1 section.
zac115 5 Posted June 1, 2025 Author Posted June 1, 2025 (edited) so the one piece folder has around 1122 eps so far. could it sorting these take some time due to the large amount of files? i ask this due to the other seasons now being gone after swapping it a day or two ago. tedfroop21 86 Posted June 2, 2025 Posted June 2, 2025 (edited) The real trick is to go through the options for ordering for the show on the TVDB. There are usually at least 3, Aired, DVD, and Absolute. Sometimes there are more options. If you find the order your files are in, you should be able to set emby to the same order ( Aired, DVD, or Absolute) and then magic happens and your meta is correct. You have two options from there if it does not match, reorder your episodes to match thetvdb OR join and log into theTVDB and create a ticket. At the least you can explain the order your files are in and why. Sometimes they collect meta from sources that do not have correct data and they will order them correctly if they are not. They may create a sort order for you, or change a sort order to correct it so it matches how the show was presented on air, dvd, or whatever. I do feel your pain. I am a huge Looney Tunes fan and people were buying a dvd and then messing with thetvdb and themoviedb data to match their one of the thousands of releases to dvd. It got so bad themoviedb dropped the entire series from their site. Thetvdb saw the light at last and locked the series permanently. It meant naming everything by release date which was a bit of a pain but at least there is good correct meta now. Edited June 2, 2025 by tedfroop21

You can use the metadata editor to lock items and that will disable internet metadata for them. 1

You can. Just remember like Luke said to lock the data in each field. Have you checked out thetvdb and done a ticket? Sometimes, they just added the data from a supplier and getting it in the correct order is on the "to do" list. I have had it happen.....nothing like when it gets done two days after you manually change stuff.....
