Might be taken more seriously if an actual dev says something versus just us users too

Are they not able to send a curl to the github api to get info on the release?

And thats the last I have, so I pass and use beta builds as no solution to be in sight!

Please Check https://hub.docker.com/r/emby/embyserver/tags

and we are stuck in beta and not latest

See this https://forums.truenas.com/t/emby-update-to-beta-4-9-1-0/44498 Until emby has a standard format to differentiate beta and stable, we cant do much

Administrator from emby suggest you to send a curl to the github api to get info on the release.

We use renovate to pull updates, and it does not have such feature for docker sources.

I hope we don't get update to a new beta from latest stable 4.9.1.90  as they still haven't pushed the update and if a beta comes first they skip previous build...

No idea, maintainer said over on github that "We use renovate to pull updates, and it does not have such feature for docker sources." in response to the curl suggestion.

So who knows

Posted

Oh well ,maintainer is incapable to setup a proper push,

oh well i converted to custom app and I do the updates as I and when i like with custom yaml.

I could curse but nevermind...

Hi, when we do a 4.9.2 maintenance release hopefully that will help them get it sorted out. Thanks !

Perhaps a silly question but do you have any timeline or guesstimate when that would be?

Hi, this issue is still not resolved with the latest 4.9.3.0 build. TrueNAS is picking up the 4.9.4.1 beta release.

Probably because they had already published 4.9.4.1 before we did 4.9.3. The next stable version number will be 4.9.5 so hopefully that will do the trick.

There was an update for Emby (2 in short order even) but i'm still on the Beta branch. Is it still the case that you can't update out of beta with Emby? If so i probably need to reinstall it to get back on the main branch

What is the latest release version number available to you?

Atm i'm on the 4.9.4.1 beta version in emby. In the Dashboard i do see that 4.10.0.2 is available for Emby but no amount of restarting or shutting down the server updates it to that number.

That's why i asked if being in a beta state kinda locks you in, because this makes it look like that to me.

No, that's because the dashboard is checking our website for updates, not the TrueNAS repository. So that's why you get that message.

Hopefully they will not release 4.10.0.X as stable, and then when we do a 4.9.5 stable update, they will release that and stay on stable releases going forward. So if there's anyone you can get the word out to, they should not release the new 4.10 betas as stable. We're giving them a 4.9.5 release soon so that you'll have a higher version number than the previous 4.9.4 betas.

Got a reaction from one of the maintainers @Luke. Seems tagging the docker images with -beta suffix would solve these problems, don't know how that works but i'll post the screenshot from one of the maintainers just in case something is lost in translation.

Hey I would like to necro this as UNSOLVED.

Luke - for the love of all that is Holy can you send someone to THIS THREAD

https://forums.truenas.com/t/emby-stable-train-is-back-in-beta/55522/32

I feel like we are close - they are having trouble navigating the Docker Tags, they want a suffix... please help it happen?

@LukeSorry to bother you about this again but figured if you don't ask you don't know so here goes.

Is there any plan to change the naming for docker releases to include that suffix? One of the Truenas people gave an example over there

It seems like if this were to happen then any future problems would be avoided with accidental betastates in docker?

We need to assess what the impact would be to existing docker users. And if there’s going to be impact then we need to figure out how to move users over from the old way to the new.

previously they had said they need version numbers ending in .0. We gave them that with 4.9.3.0 and will again soon with 4.9.5.0. I think for an immediate fix they should adopt that.

Apparently the "standard way" of showing something is a beta is by doing it like that some (one was one of the Truenas staff) have said over there. After you said you weren't aware of such a naming scheme (with the version number ending in 0) I told them that over there so i don't know if they still adhere to do it like that. I did tell them it would be like that for 4.9.5.0 but also that i had no idea if the naming scheme would stay like that.

I mean this is kinda what happens when people have to play telephone between 2 places and not knowing the thoughts behind answers given. I'll tell em what you said here and see what the response is over there.

EDIT: Before me and others noted seeing a release being tagged as beta on the Truenas forum and we asked if that was good enough which yielded this response. Don't know if it's usefull but want to make sure as much information as possible gets across.

If you wish to talk to them directly then this is the forumpost over there https://forums.truenas.com/t/emby-stable-train-is-back-in-beta/55522/38

I guess the real question is what docker repository are they looking at and using?

emby/embyserver : emby/embyserver - Docker Image

linuxserver/emby linuxserver/emby - Docker Image

Binhex binhex/arch-emby - Docker Image

There might be others repositories out there, that I don't know of.

But tbh if there bot can't tell the difference between

4.10 = Current beta

4.9 = Current latest / stabil

Its should not be in use.

Posted

I'll tell you the same thing i told the Truenas staff member Neminem.

I”m not a dev. I’m someone who uses the Truenas Emby app.

So whether their bot can differentiate or not? I don't know. Which repository? I don't know. (my guess would be linux since truenas scale is based on Linux but i don't know for sure) I don't work on either side's code/program/bot/(insert whatever you prefer to read there), i'm a person that's forced into playing telephone to get out of this annoying situation. If you feel like you do know more though, please, i invite you to go the thread i linked in my previous post and talk to the people who work on this. Although going by my  experience with this for the past however many months it's been now, i'll probably end up playing telephone once more and asking those questions as nobody else seems to want to put in the effort.
