Hello everyone,

I've a very annoying issue ony my premiere emby server where e.g. an episode of a show is being played back with subtitles. After about 2/3 the playback suddenly glitches for a moment, rewinds for 2, 3 seconds and the subtitles start from the beginning catching up to the current timestamp which takes a couple of minutes.

This behavior is reproducible on multiple Android and Windows (Emby Client) devices.

I can also reproduce this issue if i simply skip forward a couple of minutes in the timeline. Every time i do that, the subtitles start from the very beginning trying to catch up.

So far i noticed this behavior on 2 different shows.

I don't know what to troubleshoot at this point. Only thing i can think of is to create a new emby server in a container and try to reproduce this behavior their again.

Anybody has any tips or input how to solve this issue? If i can collect any logs, record the behavior or anything else to help you help me troubleshoot this, let me know.

Thank you

i have been experiencing the same issue, i thought it was because i finally added my open subtitles username and password, to solve this issue for now i am turning off the subtitles altogether.

odiously this is not ideal if you are using subtitles because you need them as i do.

I need the subtitles to, english is my tertiary language but i consume all my content in english. A lot of accents are very hard to understand that's why i rely on subtitles a lot.

Guys devs will need server logs and client from where you stream.

Otherwise it will be guess work 🤷‍♂️

For anyone else who finds this thread via a search engine, yes, it still happens, and the setting you need to disable is "Emby Server" -> "Transcoding" -> "Allow subtitle extraction on the fly" (I'm running 4.8.11.0).

That has the subtitle rendering happen on the server rather than the Chromecast, which really can't handle any form of complex subtle rendering without eventually crashing.

I do hope that transcoding choice is never removed, as letting the server handle it is so much smoother.

Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!

I'm sorry, i flew right past that post.

I started play back of an episode and at ~20:14 i skipped forward and the subtitles again started from the beginning catching up to the timeline.

I uploaded the server logs with the corresponding timestamp and the EmbyClient and mpv log.
