podonnell 47 Posted May 23, 2025 Posted May 23, 2025 Had a friend report that their playback was weird on a particular item, and I saw that it had Dolby Vision on it. They don't have an HDR capable TV, I think it's an older Fire TV. Is there any way to have this watchable on a non-HDR TV? If I am remembering correctly, Dolby Vision has different 'profiles', one of which has a fallback if the TV does not report DV capable. I'm guessing this item might be in a non-fallback capable profile? Here are the specifics of this title:
Lessaj 467 Posted May 23, 2025 Posted May 23, 2025 (edited) Profile 5 is pure DV. In your case it says None which is odd but maybe mediainfo has more details. It should force a transcode if the device is only SDR, and pure DV can't be transcoded so you get the green/purple screens. Your file might not be tagged properly, the more I look at it it seems like it should have HDR fallback but it's just missing the profile. Edited May 23, 2025 by Lessaj
Guest Posted May 24, 2025 Posted May 24, 2025 Use the Windows app. It will play everything, natively.
