Feature request: Apple TV - Multiple users in one app

Hey, so I have an Apple TV and I share it with my family. We like to separate our watch progress into different user accounts in my household. It's a bit tricky, because the only way to do this right now is for everyone to have a different Apple account. You can switch apple accounts, and Emby will have a different setup.

This is problematic because my kids aren't old enough to have Apple accounts and we don't want them to interfere with everyone else's watch history. Our solution is to create an Apple account for them that exists solely for this purpose, but it's annoying. To be honest, I would like something like the iOS app has, where you can add multiple users to the app and switch between them. This way, we don't need 5 different Apple accounts on 1 Apple TV, and it would be a lot easier to share the TV!

Thanks! 😃

I am able to do this with one apple account for all of our TV's. On top of the Emby home screen I go to Settings > Change User. When I log in with their account I set it with no pin and when logging in with my account I set the pin...

It works "okay" but it does suck that you MUST remember to switch users before you stop watching or else you stay logged in & whoever is next to pickup the remote will be on your Emby user account... Maybe a feature request to implement a "Who's Watching" screen like Hulu & Disney+ have at the launch of the app would solve this issue...

That's a good idea! I like the idea of a "Who's watching" screen. It's pretty standard and user friendly. Also, it's still a pain to log out, put in the username, sign in. Just a lot of hassle. Also, don't really wanna set an empty pin or password. Especially because I have my server set to be opened remotely, I don't want anyone to be able to get in without a password!!

That is not true at all.  You just need different Emby users.

Users

And then you switch users in the app.  There should also be the option in the app to show the login screen on startup which will get your "who's watching" feature you are asking for.

Right, I know that is possible but, it's very annoying switching users because it does not store the accounts for one-click sign on like Netflix, or the Emby iOS app, or the Emby web app. You need to type out the Username and password every time which is really obnoxious on an Apple TV remote, or even with the iPhone keyboard. This is worse if you have a shared space where everyone has their own series progress and all because everyone would constantly be logging out and back in.

My current solution of using multiple Apple IDs lets me switch the Apple ID, and then Emby automatically switches accounts. I'd really prefer for it to work like the iOS app, where you can "remember login" and then there will be a small menu where you can click on the user you want to use and it just switched automatically.

That is how all the apps should be.  If Apple TV isn't right now, it will be in the future.
