Myith29 2 Posted May 22, 2025 Posted May 22, 2025 Hello I am having trouble loading the metadata for a tv show. I cannot figure out what I am doing differently that is causing the error. I followed the tv naming convention however when I go to Emby, the episode details are not loading. I have also identified the show just to be sure and it recognizes the show, but does not pull data for the episodes. Furthermore, if i click "View Missing Episodes" it will state that all the episodes I loaded are still missing. Please let me know what I am doing wrong here. Pictures attached.
Luke 42077 Posted May 22, 2025 Posted May 22, 2025 Hi, try assigning the episodes a season and episode number, and that should resolve it. But then if you add another new episode and they're still blank, then we'll want to look deeper into why that is happening.
Myith29 2 Posted May 22, 2025 Author Posted May 22, 2025 I tried assigning a season and episode number to a few of them and it still cannot find the metadata for them.
sa2000 673 Posted May 22, 2025 Posted May 22, 2025 Just tried your filenaming on 4.8.11.0 and on the beta 4.9.0.60 and the episodes were identified ok Folders/files and metadata for s01e01 Maybe issues with the connections / requests to the metadata provider What do you have set for the library for metadata providers? Does refresh metadata on the show or library make any difference? You could capture server logs at the end of refresh metadata and attach here See
Myith29 2 Posted May 22, 2025 Author Posted May 22, 2025 Thank you for the help. Are these the images you are requesting? And I tried refreshing both the show and library and it does not seem to make a difference. And I am on Emby 4.8.11.0

tedfroop21 86 Posted May 22, 2025 Posted May 22, 2025 (edited) There are two identities to get the meta data for TV shows. 1. The Show ID. Every show starts with the show ID to find the correct show to match to your episodes. Sometimes you need to connect to the meta supplier (thetvdb.com) and find the correct id for your show. The one you are showing has a number of different shows that could easily confuse the meta search agent. Find the one that matches your media. Find the Show ID number. 2. In Emby Click on the three dots at the end of the show name. Click on Identify. A page will open and you can add the show ID. You only need ONE meta id to identify the show, emby will add the others if they exist. Once you click Search, Emby should find all the shows that match your search. Pick the right one. Confirm on the next page. The TVDB series ID for Kim Possible TV Show is 78259 3. The Episode ID Last but by no means least, go to the TVDB Show page for the series. Under the Seasons tab there at 4 sort options for the show. There is Aired Order, DVD Order, Absolute Order, and Disney +. Find the one that has the same order as your media. 4. Logged in as Emby admin, click on the Manage Emby Options (the gear in the top corner). Go down the left menu and find Metadata Manager. Open that. 5 . On the left find the Library, then the show. Look for the File Order pull down and set that to the order for the Meta that matches your show. Edited May 22, 2025 by tedfroop21 2
Neminem 1516 Posted May 22, 2025 Posted May 22, 2025 Here is 1 show I always had issues with. Charmed - TheTVDB.com after there was a remake Charmed (2018) - TheTVDB.com I had issue with just naming the show folder with year (xxxx) But pointing to the exact ID in show folder like this. Charmed (1998) [TvdbId=70626] Charmed (2018) [TvdbId=349317] Even if there are now reboot or what its called. Adding [TvdbId=xxxxxxx] to folder name, will take away Emby's guessing game. Not saying its perfect, but you will eliminate many issues. There are of cause out liers that will messe it up. 1

I call it reverse lookup, and anytime something does not match as expected the first place I go is the first meta site in my search. On occasion, stupid things keep stuff from matching, and sometimes its lots of media with close to the same name - and the scanner gets it wrong. Once you identify the show and the sort order correctly it will usually scrape the right meta. ....and setting the sort order is a bit buried but fixes a lot of problems where you rip from DVD and it gets the meta for the right show, but everything is out of order. 1

The first log after enabling debug logging does not show any attempt to fetch metadata from thetvdb or themoviedb. This could be a bug that may have got fixed subsequently in the 4.9.0.x betas. The seond log, however, after removing the series folder and bringing it back, shows some network / dns issue - where the system failed to do a dns lookup for api4.thetvdb.com and api.themoviedb.org MediaBrowser.Model.Net.HttpException: MediaBrowser.Model.Net.HttpException: No such host is known. Myith29 2 Posted May 23, 2025 Author Posted May 23, 2025 So an update for my situation: It looks like some error is occurring in Emby's recognition of the files. After I got the first three seasons to load all the metadata I uploaded season 4, however, season 4 is showing as a TV series not a season. I looked at some of the other shows I have and some of them did the same thing where all the other seasons are recognized as seasons but one is a tv series that does not have metadata. I have attached some pictures as well as a screenshot of the folder structure. Please let me know how to fix whatever the "bug" is.

No, because it continues to report 192.168.68.127 as being available, so that interface is fine, but you seem to have another interface that appears for a short time and then disappears. What is it? Maybe a wifi card that's being turned on/off? Is there anything in your Windows event logs around 2025-05-22 14:32 that would indicate a network interface being turned on/created, anything like that? Lessaj 467 Posted May 24, 2025 Posted May 24, 2025 Seems like the wifi might be the culprit indeed, let's see with it disabled if it still happens.
Myith29 2 Posted May 24, 2025 Author Posted May 24, 2025 embyserver(3).txt Hmm, no success. After disabling the wifi I 1)rebooted my computer, 2) removed identification from the show, 3) re-identified the show, 4) scanned the library and 5) refreshed the metadata but season 4 continues to have no metadata info for the show. Strangely it now shows the container for all seasons as TV Series rather than Seasons. But when i go into Seasons 1-3 (and the special), they still have the appropriate metadata. I have attached the most recent log.

And it now appears to be doing this for any show I upload. I moved the Hey Arnold movie from my movie folder to the TV folder and no metadata shows for it either. So everything in the folder previously has metadata and new files do not. Looking at Kim Possible you can see there is no data there when I open the metadata. It really looks like my link to theTVDB is broken somewhere. I may have to find the tvdb id for each episode individually. How do I do that?
