Wrong poster images not updating after correct "Identify", everything else is ok

I usually scan 4Tb disks as soon as they're full and then check for missing/wrong movie entries and manually fix them (I save metadata both to cache and disks). This means that if I see a wrong title/poster, I launch "Identify", enter the IMDB ID and in short everything is ok. Now with v4.8.11.0 this happens only for movie information. Data is correctly switched to the movie I submitted, except for the poster, that I have to manually replace (while other images like logo, thumb, art, cast, crew, etc are already correct). Is this a bug?

The one in the middle has been identified, but the poster has not been replaced.

If you mean the Replace existing images, yes, it's enabled, but has no effect, Tried right now with this, everything went in the right place, except the poster.:

Not sure but debug logging will show more info if you repeat the process but looks like it got the image just not sure on the saving process only in debug logging.

Ok, repeated with another movie, new log.

For context, O:\Emby is a mountpoint, real HDD is on P:\, nevertheless only poster is affected, so I'm not sure it means anything.

@LukeTried now, and in this case the poster appears correctly along with other data/pics. So there is something with the screenshot placeholder for unrecognized movies. This obviously didn't occur in the past, never had this problem with 70+ HDD's. The movie I identified is "Marukin marubi no kinkonkan", I'm attaching the new log.

This is something I noticed since some time ago and it's related to my custom hierarchy: I store movies like

X:\[GENRE folder]\Movie Title (BD-1080p) (1987) [ITA+ENG].mkv

So movies are not each in a subfolder, but all together inside the Genre folder. This always worked fine and it's the way I stored movies long before Emby existed, so I did not change it. 

The thing I noticed (which is not a problem, since in the UI has no effect) is that if a Genre folder contains only 1 movie, the relative pictures are not named after the movie filename like Movie Title (BD-1080p) (1987) [ITA+ENG]-poster.jpg, but only poster.jpg, fanart,jpg, etc.

This is unrelated to this thread's issue, the unreplaced posters have the name of the relative movie file.

Let me see if I understand this correctly, you have a flat file structure in a genre folder so technically all non-movie named images technically should be ignored ie poster/fanart/logo without files names as they do not belong to any movie.

But images of exact content and naming scheme of a specific example would help.

Created a Movie library with Genre folders containing flat media files with existing poster image of the genre.

Animation was fine as there was more than one file so each file was correctly identified

From a single file in folder yes Emby fails as it does not know it is not the media folder so Drama was Identified as Drama (Normal per hidden switches for collapse single files)

Now reidentify creates issues as you have a single non-media folder with media but creates confusion for Emby as image naming scheme is incorrect do to single item in non-media folder @Luke.  Still nothing new from a Emby standpoint due to structure and single item in nested folder.

Now folder level will inherit the wrong image due to not changing naming scheme per single items.  

Had to clear cache a couple times for image to update.

Only tested in 4.8 but will test in 4.9 in a bit as there are changes to this aspect.

But did not have an issue with edit image saving to said folder.

Ok, thanks for the extensive tests @Happy2Play This pics show and example of what my hierarchy looks like. 

You can see the Genre folders in the root, a few movies with relative pics/nfo with same filename and a folder with a single movie with pics not named after movie filename. 

Then only thing I can add is the fact that this happened (for the first time) in this order:

- I scanned a harddisk

- Emby recognized most of the movies and downloaded all the correct assets,

- Emby mis-recognized a few movies to which assigned wrong assets

- Emby did not recognize at all some other movies, using a screenshot as placeholder for poster.

The problem with non replaced poster happened when I identified the 2 latter cases, everything went in place, except poster. But as I realized after @Luke's suggestion, if I first removed the wrong poster/screenshot, Identify would put in place the correct poster as well. I know, it's weird.

Since Emby will assume the local image already exist as one exists in folder on import it will not get a new one.  And yes Identify with Replace image will delete/replace the existing image.

(this single item in folder scenario is the overall issue)

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying, but this has never happened before in years of Emby usage. As I showed, I have the "Replace" enabled. 

EDIT I'm referring to the non-replaced poster. The single movie in a folder problem is older, I don't know how much.

I have long given up, also because meanwhile the HDD where I had all mountpoints broke and Emby forgot ALL assets, despite having enabled the option to store all of them locally (on another HDD) and that frustrated me a lot (44 HDDs to rescan).

Also my current PC decided to hijack the USB ports, so I must reboot each time I want to swap an HDD (unsolvable, tons of articles, posts and IA's failed on this, I won't spend any more life on it). I will move this to my next PC.
