Extreme Buffering During File Transfer

Greetings,

This may well not be a problem, I'm just checking to see if something is expected or normal. I'm in the process of transferring everything from my PC to a new Synology NAS. I'm doing the transfer via FTP over my LAN. The other night, I tried to play something on Emby while the transfer was in progress, and the buffering was so bad that it would play for ten seconds, buffer for ten, and on like that.

I was trying to play files stored on my PC. I have a gigabit router, and the connection to the PC is via ethernet cable. When the transfer is going full speed, I can still stream from outside services and download at normal speeds. The router compensates. But streaming from Emby to a Roku device over wi-fi is impossible unless I set an FTP speed limit of 25 mbps (I tried 75, 50, and 35 first, and none worked). Is this normal, or is there a setting I can change to fix it? I'm only asking because everything *except* Emby works with no problems.

Thanks!

Sounds normal as you are saturating your network locally and Emby really does not do any connection testing locally like it does for remote connections.

Thanks! It's good to know nothing's going wrong. I just wanted to make sure I hadn't messed something up before the transfer is finished and I won't notice the issue any more.

I have a gigabit router, and the connection to the PC is via ethernet cable with gigabit port and I do not see those issues.

Does your PC have a gigabit ethernet port or is it only 100Mbit? Since if it is 100Mbit ethernet port on the PC you are only getting 10% of what the gigabit router is capable of when streaming or downloading from that PC.
