Strange issues with nvidia driver with Emby running

Hello,

This is kind of a strange issue that I've noticed and have just started putting together the dots. I run Emby on my Windows PC which I use for gaming and basically anything else, its not a dedicated machine just for Emby. I noticed that when I play Counter-Strike 2, a fairly well known game on steam, it tabs out constanly and gets stuck in a loop of tabbing in and out, almost every time I launch the game. When I close my Emby server however, the game runs perfectly fine. I've played many other games with Emby open and discovered no issue at all. After looking into Windows event viewer, this event is occuring consistently when I launch the game and have Emby running in the background:

Log Name:      System
Source:        nvlddmkm
Date:          17/05/2025 22:50:35
Event ID:      153
Task Category: None
Level:         Error
Keywords:      Classic
User:          N/A
Computer:      CZRH4-DESKTOP
Description:
The description for Event ID 153 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

\Device\Video8
Error occurred on GPUID: b00

I thought maybe I should try updating drivers since it may be some weird fluke of an issue and surprisingly the Nvidia app would flat out refuse to install the drivers no matter how many times I tried. After then restarting my PC with the Emby server set to not open on startup, the drivers installed no issue.

I've attached the server log as well since its creating a new log everytime I launch CS2 and have the issue. (FYI around 22:50 in the logs is when I opened the game, same time the log generated and the event showed up in event viewer)

I get this might be kind of a weird issue and the solution should be that I should just close the server before playing but it's a little annoying since other people are using my server so I thought I may as well ask on here

Thanks :)

Hi, did you test this right after starting the server? Did it just happen to line up with the time of the hardware detection task?

This happens no matter if the server is just launched or has been launched for several hours, the event always occurs, It's a repeatable error.

So everytime the display properties change, the server will re-run it's hardware detection routines. I wonder if this is causing the blip?

so my theory would be that the game changes something about the display  mode, the server detects that, runs hardware detection, and then this causes a problem with the game.

Yeah that could be whats causing it.

I've tried a few different things but to no avail so far, the same event occurs no matter what at the moment.

Seems strange that it only occurs for that particular game also but I guess its just a case of not having them both open at the same time for now.
