Pirlo1966 22 Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Thanks for this clear guide! When trying to delete the content of the MBServer folder I get a permission denied error message in WinSCP. In short, I cannot delete. I am the adminstrator of this NAS but it is clear I do not know what I am doing :-) Any ideas? Never mind. I figured out I needed to login as root + password instead of admin + password
Pirlo1966 22 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Am a bit confused. I installed mono from synocommunity and Emby from cytec. Do I still need to install Imagemagick? I have a DS1511+ with Atom D525 (Pineview). What vesion of Imagemagick should I pick? Anyway, artwork shows up painfully slow in both webbrowser and clients such as EmbyTheater and MB Classic. Due to my atom D525 processor or is there something I could do to improve performance? 1
AlwinHummels 134 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I've a DS415+ and I still cant find the ImageMagick package for avaton does any of you have it work on a DS415+? Please give me a hint

Also noticing right now that the Cytec page has pulled the mediabrowser spks.
TheWorkz 7 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 (edited) Just wanted to stop in and say Well done all!! I just started building my virtual "Synology' unit using a newly purchased ThinkServer TS440 running VMWare ESXi & Xpenology (Open Synology). The Synology OS boots in seconds and runs really fast on a Xeon E3-1245 with an SSD for the OS. A lot better than my 413j. Mediabrowser also runs really quick on it and the install took just a second. I installed ImageMagik, then Mono and finally manually installed MediaBrowser manually since it wasn't in the repo anymore. Works well, but I haven't really ran it through the paces yet or added in any of the addin's. The great thing about the virtual OS, is I can revert back so if I get a chance, I will see if I can provide a tutorial with pictures on setting up a "Synology" Unit. Just wanted to pop in here and say well done on the packages and that I am excited for the final release. Edited April 10, 2015 by TheWorkz

Please give me a hint I used the cedarview package and modified the INFO file to say avoton instead of cedarview. In fact, that's what I did for the Emby package as well. is it in the repo as Emby? No, it's completely gone. Edited April 10, 2015 by Snapper 1
Snapper 20 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 (edited) Anyone else experience slow performance with Emby on their Synology? I have the DS415+ which has a 4 core 2.4ghz Atom processor. It seems to do fairly well except in one area. Logins are slow from Emby WMC. It takes anywhere from 14-70 seconds from the time I click the icon to the time I see the splash screen. I tested this on two different clients. From the web browser it is very fast, so why is it so much slower from WMC? I also didn't experience those types of delays using Emby Theater. If I turn on my old server, which runs on Windows and has a faster processor, it only takes a second or two for the splash screen to show up. Any ideas? Is it hopeless with this slower Atom processor? Once I am in, browsing is as fast as I would expect. Update: Found the answer. I uninstalled the client, removed all traces of the client, removed the clickonce cache, and then reinstalled. Now it seems to be working well and loading fast. Edited April 10, 2015 by Snapper 1

simono5 21 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 (edited) Biggest challenge I'm facing is getting Emby to start when my Synology wakes up in the morning. Not sure what unit you have, but these 2 and 4 bay units will save you about $5-6/yr being off 8 hours/day. 1
TheWorkz 7 Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Hoping this is not a stupid question, but while testing, the one issue I encountered was providing rights to the shares for the Synology App. In windows, it uses the credentials of the logged in user or service. For Synology, The only way i've found around it is to provide rights to the Volume share (ex. /Volume1/Movies) locally to "Everyone" group and then path substitution for UNC paths for other clients. Suggestions?

Control Panel\Shared Folders will show the share permissions. Setting the share and folder permissions to read for the "users" group was sufficient for me to let Emby see the files. 1

Perfect, Thanks.. It's funny, I had tried everything locally except users. I tried Administrators, HTTP, and even guest accounts. Since the only account on this test synology unit was Administrators, i just assumed users group wouldn't work. I was trying to find what account specifcally Emby was using so I could be explicit. But I guess this will work fine. Edited April 11, 2015 by TheWorkz

demon1300 1 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Hi Guys, I've recently got Emby installed and working on my DS1511+ and have been running into a few performance issues.... The NAS being a little older runs on the 1.8Ghz hyperthreaded atom and really does seem to struggle. I've been trying to set it up with my 2 media centers (also intel atom D525's) and not really having much luck! The one in my lounge has been hosting a local server for years and I've been using media browser classic from it - utilising a MPC-HC fork as an external player. This was all in an effort to get smooth playback with any bitrate video - even with subs enabled (they take a massive toll on the D525's processor due to aliasing being done on the CPU not the ION GPU!!). Why is emby now trying to transcode everything, when serving a classic instance that requires no transcoding? It should recognise the instance as being able to play the media natively. I've tried utilising the internal player from within WMC, but it's jerky as hell and completely not watchable. I realise that i'm not using the greatest hardware for this, but it's been fine with a local emby server on one of the boxes - almost since MB's inception. I'd really like to get this working as it will make my life much easier having everything done from the syno!
Luke 42077 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Look at the library setup in the web interface, specifically Path Substitution. Click the help buttons on the page to learn about that.

Thanks for the reply snapper, whilst I know how to run a cmd line I'm not overly experienced in it....if I could impose on you again, the only remaining question I now have is.....does running this command effect anything else on the synology, for example I also run Plex and Video Station (as a backup), would either of these packages be effected in any way, if I run this command how is it limited to Emby? Thanks again.

Thanks again. Just to be clear, you would run this command on the client machine that had Emby WMC installed. So the order would go something like this: Uninstall Emby WMC Remove any references to Emby WMC (e.g. delete Emby/MediaBrowser folders c:\programdata, c:\program files, %appdata%, etc). Basically wherever you can find them. At this point you will want to run the remove clickonce cache command Reinstall Emby WMC I did not notice any adverse effects from running the command to remove click once cache. I hope that helps, good luck.
Luke 42077 Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 It would be great if someone could step up and get involved with putting a package together that can be distributed. Right now it seems like we have ab lot of people who have figured it out on their own which means every new person has to come in here and get help 3
nolatall 0 Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Hi, does someone know if cytek is planning to put emby back on his website ?
Luke 42077 Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 You can ask him here: https://github.com/SynoCommunity/spksrc/issues/1346
