apichler 5 Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 Am I the only one that finds the new windows app much slower than the old Emby Theater?

apichler 5 Posted September 7, 2025 Posted September 7, 2025 No no no .... The UIs are certainly not the same. Emby Theater doesn't really have the "start" page that web does as Theater starts directly in the first library on your Emby installation. Have pasted pictures. Moreso it's not the UI. It's the jerky-ness of controlling 2.234.2.0 with a remote which ruins the experience for me (have been using mediacenter since Windows MCE Edition). All fluid scrolling has gone away and been replaced by an unpleasant jerky UX when scrolling in any direction. Here are pictures of the two I currently have running on my windows box. Emby Theater 3.0.21 Emby for Windows 2.234.2.0
Luke 42077 Posted September 7, 2025 Posted September 7, 2025 @apichlerthey are the same, but in your second screenshot you have not enabled TV display mode. Do that , and then they will be the same. The next update to the app has added a screen to the welcome process of the app to ask you what mode you want to display the app in.

To clarify a bit more: Emby Theater Legacy: Has "Blue Radiance" theme and "Display Mode: TV" enabled by default Emby Windows (new): Has "Dark" theme and "Display Mode: Desktop" enabled by default We have to acknowledge that remote control operation doesn't work well in "Display Mode: Desktop". Some improvements have been made in the Windows app in this regard and for keyboard-only navigation using TAB and cursor keys (opposed to the web app), but generally the only way to get a proper navigation experience using remote control input is to enable "Display Mode: TV".
apichler 5 Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 Thank you both. You're rockstars Pleease let me know if I can return the favor! 1

Thank you for all your hard work! Where is the option to set emby WMC to Tv mode? I don't have directional control with the remote control at start of WMC until i remote into PC and manually move cursor around. This action somehow enables me to navigate freely with remote control after... thank you! Edited September 29, 2025 by da1stprince
softworkz 5065 Posted September 29, 2025 Posted September 29, 2025 What do you mean by "Emby WMC" - the WMC UI apps (https://wmc.emby.media/) or the "Windows Media Center" theme in the new Windows app? Or do you mean the "Windows Theme" in the new Windows app? That one doesn't have a TV mode.

BTW - did you know that there is a 2.234 available? https://github.com/EmbySupport/Emby.WMC.UI/releases

I think maybe it doesn't start maximized. Responds only to the menu/guide/ channel up down/and DVR buttons. refuses to acknowledge directional until I introduce a mouse and then somehow it can see the directional on the remote after
softworkz 5065 Posted October 1, 2025 Posted October 1, 2025 It's a focus issue. It doesn't doesn't properly get focus for input. Some of the keys are working because they are handled differently and are not going through key input. We'll have to see how to deal with it. The Windows app seems to be suffering from this as well.

MiCo1972 6 Posted November 3, 2025 Posted November 3, 2025 Hey, is it correct that I can no longer control the new version via the iPad app? I can see the movie that is currently playing, but I cannot start a new Movie, for example. It works without any problems on the same computer with Emby Theatre. Many thanks! kindly regards Michael
heffeque 78 Posted November 12, 2025 Posted November 12, 2025 I have the 2.234.2.0 version installed in Win11. Just as a heads up, some 4.9 menus/options seem to be missing on it, such as transcoding options that only seem to appear on the web version. Keep up the great work! 1
