Nvidia Shield (2017) - Emby not falling back to HDR when playing DoVi Profile 8.1 (HDR10 compatible)

Hi new Emby user here (previously plex user)

So far im liking Emby... Im still working things out, things look promising. I especially like the fact you get more technical info about the audio/video in Emby.
(my music library is problematic, Emby refuses to add a ton of albums, which work perfectly fine in plex, but thats another topic, maybe for later. First things first).

Sadly, i got a couple of files where which have DoVi profile 8.1 but they refuse to play in Emby on the Nvidia Shield (2017 model) player.
I know it does not support DoVi, but i'm pretty sure it should just fall back to the HDR10 date instead. It works/plays fine in Plex and every other player i tried on the Shield.
The Emby webapp in firefox (windows 11) also refuses to play the files, it works fine in Chrome browser though.

Can anyone help me with this? Im dont think im doing anything wrong and looked carefully in the config menu's but couldn't find any relevant settings...

Standard HDR10 movies with no DoVi work fine.
It seems Emby is not able to fall back to HDR10 when DoVi information is present? Which is weird?

Looked at the logs you referred too and i saw there were transcoding errors (x264)... Which is understandable since my NAS' CPU is very weak with no hardware encoding.

Tried to set higher quality in the player to prevent tanscoding and all works well now.

Just a followup question. I only have to set the quality once (while playing the video on the player's settings) and it remembers/applies this for every video?

Thank you!

Strange thing is transcoding is supposed to be off for this user... I only have transcoding enabled for the audio and changing of container formats?
So, it should not have allowed the transcoding to a lower bitrate (with HLG)?

All you did was disable video transcoding. It could still be changing the container format and/or audio transcoding.
