Emby Android app

I so wanna replace Plex with Emby but can't get the app to work when I'm away from home. Can't connect to my server. Whereas if I type the server address into my browser I can log in and play everything. So that at least it's something but I really would like to use the app!

What am I doing wrong? Or forgetting or? Help.

Hi there, what exactly happens when you try to connect?

Hi!

It says the server can't be reached.

Whereas via webpage it can be reached? Chrome just offered to make the webpage an 'app' and that works as well... Just not thru the real app

Hi.  Are you using the exact same address in the app as you do in the browser?

HTTP or HTTPS?

Yes i am. I am using reverse proxy. Does that complicate things for the app?

Hi.  Exactly what proxy are you using.  It probably has to be configured for the Fire TV.

There's so many questions you haven't answered about the reverse proxy, ports, are they open on the router, are you able to access other apps on your network remotely? I think a better approach would be to use TailScale on your nas to access Emby...

Sorry about that. (Questions that weren't asked though). Not a tech Guru. Regretfully Plex does work... Stuck with that now on the app and on the Xiaomi TV stick. Pity though.

Will look into tailscale!

Plex worked fine because they have a relay feature that routes everything through their own servers. This automatically kicks in when a direct connection isn't possible, but if it were me, I would find that invasive considering they also sell your information to the highest bidder.

For this reason it's really in your best interests to figure out why you can't make that direct connection and get that cleared up.
