reas11 2 Posted May 4, 2025 Posted May 4, 2025 I've noticed the new android app doesn't have an option to timeout after inactivity like the previous android TV app. For example if I turn off my shield after using emby, when I turn it back on days later, and click the emby app, it's still on the same page I left it on whether this be a movie, TV show or the home page. The problem I've found with this is it doesn't update or load new content I've put on my emby server since the last use. So I have to manually close the app again and reopen to get it to update. If I can remember correctly the previous emby app had an option to timeout after 10 minutes of inactivity
ebr 16169 Posted May 5, 2025 Posted May 5, 2025 I think he actually means shut down / exit the app. The TV app has an auto logoff time in the settings which prevents things like parents leaving the main TV logged in when they go to bed.
reas11 2 Posted May 8, 2025 Author Posted May 8, 2025 Hi I'm referring to this setting which is in the android TV app
Gilgamesh_48 1240 Posted May 8, 2025 Posted May 8, 2025 When I saw that setting the first thing I did was turn it off. For me auto logoff or auto shutdown is abhorrent. I understand why some, and maybe even most, people might find it to be of value but i do not at all. I understand that Emby felt compelled to add this in but I am thankful that Emby had the wisdom to allow me to turn it off. The forced auto logoff that Roku forces on everyone and cannot be turned off is one major reason I am using my Rokus a LOT less these days.

For me it never actually had the effect of logging my account out. It just seemed to force close the app after 30 minutes so it would always boot up fresh to the home screen each day

What is important is that if i leave the app active and return even 4 or 5 hours later I expect it to be exactly where it was when I left. That is what Roku now forces all apps to do. That is if they are active but not being used for a few hours Roku FORCES exit out to the main screen, much like it forces a press of the home key after a period of inactivity. I find that VERY irritating. Fortunately Android dose not do that and it is up to the app's developer to add that intrusion or not. Emby seems to have chosen to have that feature available but allow those of us that detest any "automatic" intrusion to turn it off. Which I have done as I see no value in that kind of intrusion into the use of my devices. In fact I would like to not have anything change when I switch to another device but that seem to be a forced standard feature of all Android devices. That is if you change your TV to a different input then whatever device is being used to exit whatever it is doing. I don't like that behavior but it seems to be standard across all Android devices and all TVs, at least it is on my limited test on devices I own or have access to. It is an imperfect world and some parts of that are just unavoidable. At least Emby does remember where you are in playback and that is a good thing.

Main issue im getting is the library doesn't update in the emby app on the shield without a force close. So I'm often having to force close the emby app to update the library. Often i can go days without using emby on my shield, but may of updated the library on my server multiple times in that time period. These changes don't show without booting the app up fresh
