Mixed content library no longer displaying correctly

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi, just wanted to revisit this original question as I'm having a similar issue.  I've got a few TV folders with a mixed selection of shows (i.e. a few episodes from a variety of shows in the same folder), and they're not displaying correctly in the folder view (i.e. wrong headline folder name, incorrectly labelled sub-folders and no playable files in the main folder (they are all showing in a mix of the sub-folders under the main folder).  Is there a way to fix this so the folder view just shows the folder and file names without grouping them in odd ways?

Thanks!

No not that I know of as Mixed still falls under the Movie or TV requirements.

Only way to get just folders is Home Video and Photo library.

Thanks for the quick reply!  I currently put a collection of TV shows I want to watch in the same folder together so I don't have to hunt for them throughout the library. I'm moving from DS Video which shows the folder view and is still able to recognise the individual TV shows within the main mix folder (regardless of whether they're stored directly in the main mix folder or whether they're in sub-folders of the main mix folder).  All the files in this folder are TV shows.

So the only way to do something similar with Emby and be able to navigate in this folder is to set the mix folder as its own library and set it to Home Video type?

Thanks again!

Hi there @Noz11how are your files named and organized?

Hi Luke,

All of the TV show files are in the format <show name> <S#><E#>.  They are getting picked up correctly when it's just one show per folder, but not in the folder with multiple shows.  There are a couple of non-TV show files in there as well, which I could take out if that was the only issue, but it also looks to be mixing up the TV show files as well.  Example organisation in the folder with multiple shows is:

<Show 1 folder>
<Show 2 s01e01 file>
<Show 2 s01e02 file>
<Show 3 s01e01 file>
<Show 3 s01e02 file>
<Generic video file (not a TV show)>
<Generic video folder (not a TV show)>

Within <Show 1 folder> is:
<Show 1 s01e01>
<Show 1 s01e02>
<Show 1 s01e03>

When viewing this folder in the Emby library, this looks like:
<Generic video folder (not a TV show)>
     Within this folder, only 2 of the 5 videos in the folder actually display
<Show 1 folder>
     Within this folder, the right number of files show up, but some of the Show 1 video files don't appear and instead some have been replaced with Show 3 videos
<Show 2 folder>
      Within this folder, it has also included <Generic video file (not a TV show)>

Hopefully that all makes sense.  Please let me know if not, and am happy to provide more details.

TV Naming  follow this.

All tv shows must be in the own folder.

Thanks for that.  So is there any way I can organise the files/folders in a way that I can easily see what I've marked for myself as wanting to watch next (e.g. recently added to the server, but not necessarily the newest shows in terms of release dates)?

Hi, can we please see actual examples? Thanks .

Thanks for the suggestion - I've moved all the TV show files into sub folders of the main folder and that seems to have fixed up most of the indexing issues.  I've got 4 different folders that each contain a variety of TV shows (all no in their own sub folders per show), and two of the folders have been recognised as mixed content libraries and the sub-folders have each been identified as different shows, and two of the folders have not and it still is trying to identify one show to allocate across all of the sub-folders.

I've added examples below.   The AC folder is correct, and the menu for this folder doesn't include the option of "Identify" as it seems to have recognised there are multiple different TV shows within the folder.  The AB folder has the "Identify" option in the main menu for this folder, and as a result I can't choose to "Identify" the sub folders with different shows.

I'm sure I'm asking a stupid question here, but what can I do to get it to recognise the main folder as containing multiple TV shows within?

As part of the reorganising the file and folder structure, I've now also got a couple of folders that I've since deleted on the media server but still show up in the Emby view.  I've tried selecting the "Scan Library Files" at the main folder and sub folder levels but the ghost folders still show up.  Is there anything I can do to get them to disappear in the Emby view?

If you want it to Just Work™ then you should follow the Emby naming guidelines closely, not vaguely.  In the main folder(s) for a mixed library, place one folder for each movie and one for each series (with season folders within), and the media files appropriately.  Shortcuts might often work, but doing things exactly that way will save a lot of frustration, and especially more so in mixed libraries than separate movie and TV libraries.

Having nested folder structure is always problematic especially with TV/Shows as Emby has to try and interpret correct show level and naming schemes will cause issues.

From a TV standpoint you will need to ensure every show folder has year added to it as it helps with possible false level identification.

But yes it can be done with minor requirements but full examples are needed as it can almost me impossible to know what show is tripping the parser and sometimes have to add media one show at a time to figure it out and change naming scheme on that show to correct the issue.

But there are dozens of existing topics on this.
