Gilgamesh_48 1240 Posted May 1, 2025 Posted May 1, 2025 I have been using the Android app (Android TV app) on my Shield for a good while now and I like it quite a bit but there is one little thing that is lacking that I find I really miss. I use the "Legacy Next up" row as I find it better for me than the standard "Continue watching" but there is one feature that Roku has that seems totally missing from Android: That is on the Roku you see a counter on the far right just above the row showing what position you are in the list. That is missing from the Android app. I find it a real advantage as that way, at a glance, I know exactly how far I am into the list and knowing that makes navigation easier. Sometimes I am watching from my next up and a show ends and I want to quickly go to one end or the other and, just from looking on Android, I have no idea how far that is. I can work around the problem with long press on the arrows but that is a work around and, particularly since Android does not have the ability to wrap rows, it seems clumsy at best. All I want is a small number right above the next up row that shows what the currently highlighted position is. I also wonder why it was not there from the start. It seems an easy addition that would have no negative impacts so it also seems that it should have been available from the start. 1
ebr 16169 Posted May 1, 2025 Posted May 1, 2025 Yeah, I believe the Roku is the only one of our apps that has that (on a horizontal list) and that is only because it is a standard feature of the Roku component we are using.

So what you are saying is that it will never be available on the Android app because it is not a standard Android feature for horizontal lists? Thanks, but I thought you were better programmers than that.
ebr 16169 Posted May 4, 2025 Posted May 4, 2025 It isn't about programming prowess. It is about what users expect to see in the interface and that simply isn't a normal thing on any platform other than Roku. Its built-in there so we just left it since Roku users would be used to it.

In my experience, whereas one can navigate to the last (i.e., most far right) item in a row of video media items using the Roku UI and observe the media item counter changing to display the active item number in the list of total items (e.g., 51 of 82), the last three media items will not move into view on the screen. This behavior is observed whenever there are video media items that are pushed off of the screen to the right in the ROW view. However, this odd behavior is not observed when navigated a ROW view of photo media items, which will move all photo items onto the screen when one navigates the ROW list view of photos. Weird. Cheers!
