Meta Data Image (chapter images) Errors.

On my AS3304Tv2 nas,  I am scanning metadata images as scanning isn't what could be called quick (not that I expected it to be either), I skipped chapter image generation on initial media scan.

Now in adding those images there are errors showing up in the log.  It appears to me that there is a problem resizing images every time it scans a 1920x1080 video.

Great you see that in the logs 👍

Care to share with Dev's 🤔

Hi, this should be resolved in the upcoming 4.9 release. I think we may also try to get the fix cherry picked into a 4.8.12 update. Thanks.

The one issue is that,  scanning in library mode,  the scan goes very slowly (not complaining 😁  I know its not scanning quickly - ever) through all the files that errored previously,  in each folder, until it gets to un-scanned files and continues scanning.

So I shut off the automated jobs for the moment and I am going through libraries folder by folder.

Is there an indicator for scanning progress for library folders?  Or is it just, check the log for when it stops and then move on.....?

The only scanning progress is the normal library scan progress, or the progress of a scheduled task.

How does one re-generate the Chapter Images now that 4.9.0.54 is released with a fix?

Logged in as Admin, make sure this is set.

That should start at 2 am, run to 6 am, and extract thumbnails where there are none.

Or you can rescan the affected libraries.  Make sure you set this for the affected library in the library settings.

The problem I am having is that the low res generated chapter images are not being replaced when I scan the library. It seems like they only generate once and I can’t find a way to delete them or force their replacement.

From the Main page, pick the library you want to fix.  Click on the three dots on the library tab and choose refresh metadata.

On the following menu, turn on Replace All Meta, and turn on Replace existing images.  I believe that should replace all the images.

This only replaces the primary image from the episode metadata. It doesn't regenerate the chapter images.

Found a solution. However its not great because it has to be done manually for each file with bad chapters:

  1. Remove the episode files (temporarily) with bad chapter data from their respective folders. *note: this can be done for all files at once or one-by-one
  2. Scan the Show or Library (this removes the episodes)
  3. Put the episode files back in their respective folders
  4. Scan the Show or Library again (this adds the episodes back and generates new chapter images)

That's last resort stuff but it always works.  Didn't want to send you there until other options were exhausted.

It's why I have a Timeout folder in my Media folder that isn't in a library.  Right now it has about 700 hd  videos in it because there is a problem creating chapter markers for some videos with XXXX x 1080 size, and the scanner is using some fallback method to generate low quality chapter images.

I converted about 200 files to 720p which is a gigantic pain because they have "homemade" meta.  So I had to "find and replace" the file size in the NFO's so they retained data.

Been watching and it appears the latest betas are having issues still.

We need to add an option to refresh these into the refresh metadata dialog.

And possibly a scheduled task to do the same?

We already have the video preview thumbnail scheduled task.

Does that include chapter images?

Yes.

Can the task say "preview thumbnail and chapter image extraction"?

The title matches the heading where the setting it located where you originally enabled it.

My Asustor updated to 4.9.0.70 today, so I added a few files back that were failing before.  They seem to have scanned and added chapter artwork OK, but I still see a couple errors in the log.

Did a scheduled Video Preview Thumbnail Extraction job last night that ran and finished as expected in about 10 min.

There were still a couple errors in the log but it seems - from what I see - to have done what it is supposed to. It generated Chapters where there were none, and images for all I have seen.

So 4.9.0.70 on Asustor has the problem fixed.
