sylvio2000 23 Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Hello. I want to build my own server with MB3. Because I dont want to waste much energy the server should go to standby after X minutes. But now I would like to automatically wake up the server when I access my movie library. I do not want to use wol because then I have to manually send a magic paket. One client in my house (Patriot Box) doesnt even has the possibility to send this packet. Is is possible to wake up the server without wol by just accessing the movies on the server?
Luke 42077 Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 well, what protocol would be used to wake the machine?

AdrianW 1058 Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 I have MBS running on a NUC (it also runs MBC) - but it goes to sleep when not in use, and we also put it to sleep via remote. It will always wake up as soon as I access the web UI from a browser on another PC or handheld device - this is usually to run a library scan which I prefer to do manually.
sylvio2000 23 Posted November 25, 2014 Author Posted November 25, 2014 I have googled a bit more and found something interesting: I think the network card must support "wake on Pattern Match". Because you have an Intel Nuc there must be an intel network card inside which support this mode. This mode wakes up an pc when ping or accessing network shares. But I doubt that onboard network cards support this mode (beside the intel ones )
