I've Deleted Live TV Genres

Hi All.
I was experimenting with IP TV by adding m3u files, but gave it up as it's not something I am going to use.
However whilst doing it, I have managed to remove all the TV genres from my TV tuner guide.
I have removed the Homerun tuner and re-added it again in the settings, deleted and re-added the Emby Guide data, but still have no Genres on the live TV guide screen.
Any suggestions as to how I can get them back please?

Hi, what do you mean by genres?

The selection at the top of the screen on the guide which lets you chose channels to display on the guide by genre. For example, Entertainment / sports / music / shopping etc .
I now only have 'All' as the selection an option.

OK, those are channel groups. Those either need to be in your m3u, or you need to create them manually by adding tags to channels in emby.

Hi Luke
I don’t think I am explaining myself very well.
The genres that I am missing are the ones that  Emby created when I first added the tuner. EG BBC1 – Entertainment,  MTV- Music etc.
I have never added any genres manually.
All the genres disappeared after I added an IP M3U TV guide.
When I removed it, all the Emby created genres for my Tuner also disappeared.
It's not a biggie, but I just thought they would come back if I removed and then readded the tuner.

Is there an easy way of adding them in bulk for all the UK Freeview channels?

Hi, Emby doesn't create these magically. They either exist in your m3u or they don't. Have you examined the contents of your m3u?

Hi Luke

Sorry, I assumed Emby added them when it it fills the TV Tuner Guide with the TV channel names and pictures.
Happy to add them in manually which I have now done.
Wouldnt know where to look to look on the NAS for EMBY's m3u - TBH I didn't know it had one!
I know where I placed my temporary IPTV M3U filesbefore I deleted them, but there wasn't an Emby one there.

But don't worry about it, like I say I have done in manually now.
As a suggestion would it be possible in future to add the TV Genre type to the default Emby tv guide?

I'm not really sure what you're asking. Can you please describe this in more detail? Thanks.

Hi Luke.
I am obvioulsy not explaining myself very well :D
When you add a TV tuner, and EMBY downloads the names and pictures of all the channels along with the programme guide, and I was wondering if it could include the TV station tags as well. EG BBC1 Tagged as Entertainment, BBC News 24 tagged as News, CBBC - Tagged as Children's etc.
I thought it did this automatically as I had these tags, but I must have added them in the past without realising it.
But honestly, it's not an issue. I must have been mistaken thinking the EMBY guide did this.

OK, where would that information come from? What guide data source are you using to pair with your m3u? xml?

Sorry, but I don't use a m3U file for my broadcast TV. Emby just populated it when I added the HomeRun Tuner.
It was my mistake thinking that because Emby adds the channel pictures etc when it downloads the programme guide I just assumed it would add the genre's too.

But FYI The list of UK channels with their genre is at Channel listings for Industry Professionals | Freeview.
Thats what I used to manually populate the tags.

But you said this earlier in the thread, so you must have been experimenting with m3u files that had the tvg-group attributes. These are the categories that you were seeing.

Ah I see the confusion.
I added a m3u at a temporary location to try out IPTV but decided it wasn't for me and removed it, and the reference to it in Emby.
I only want to use the Freeview HDHomerun tuner.
It was at that point all the tags on the live Freeview TV channels disappeared.
In my ignorance I thought Emby added them when it downloaded the Freeview channel list and guide.
However as you pointed out it doesn't, so I must have added them to the broadcast channels in the past myself and forgotten about it.

Honestly Luke, please dont worry about it, its not worth your time. It was my misunderstanding of what the Emby Channel lists / Guide  did. 😀
