BUG Report: Metadata is being saved somewhere else

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

This issue provides inconsistent results.
There is a specific folder where most series' new metadata are saved somewhere else, this only happened recently. Most seasons on said series/folders are saving their metadata together with the media files, but for some reason, for the newly added episodes - Metadata is being fetched and displayed on Emby but the nfo file is nowhere to be found on the media file folder where it should be.

Is it being saved somewhere else? And if so, where is it?

The Emby server is hosted on an Ubuntu 24.04.2.  LTS
Mounted CIFS vers 3.1.1

Do you have Metadata Savers>NFO enabled in your library setup? Also, have you changed some permissions lately/have any permission issues so NFO saving errors out? You can provide server log so any errors can be glimpsed.

Hi, what example are we focusing on here?

Hello guys, sorry for the  late response.
I've provided a new server log. We are experiencing the issue on multiple Series folders.
embyserver6.5.2025.txt

To name a few:
Abbott Elementary S04
Andor S02
Beyond Paradise S03
Daredevil: Born Again S01
Dope Thief S01
Family Guy S23
Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage S01
Government Cheese S01
Grey's Anatomy S21
Hacks S04

The new .mkv files were there but the .nfo files are missing, only on the folder location but not on Emby server.

Hi, did you see this?

There is no bug. The server is simply being denied access to save the nfo files. If you can ensure the server has write access to the folder, then that should resolve your issue.

Thank you for pointing that out. We will check our permissions

Please let us know what you find. Thanks.

@LukeWe have conducted some tests trying to re-create this issue. We have added some series on the said folder, but it does not have any issues saving the .nfo files together with the media files. Also, this path (MediaQNAPII) has no issues on saving .nfo files whatsoever. Not sure where this error comes from. We are having issues on MediaQNAP shared folder. MediaQNAPII and III are working fine.

Right something is denying the debt access to save the files there.

@LukeRight, so is there any way to find out why this happens?

@sezsatthe answer to this is specific to your personal environment. Unfortunately the server can only know that its being denied permission to save the file. There's no way for it to detect why.

Have you looked at this?

@LukeHello Luke, we have checked everything on the Emby server and the QNAP NAS side. Everything is in order, user permission is on rxw and we even tried creating a folder inside one of the series that is unable to save the .nfo file together with the media file. The thing is that this issue is inconsistent, take for example The Last of Us Season 2 and most series have no issues with saving the .nfo files together with the media files. This is why we believe this must be some sort of bug.

Have you checked to ensure that the permissions aren't being overridden at a lower level?

What exactly did you check and how?
