Change/up the quality of fanart/backgrounds?

Is there a way to have fanart displayed or cached or whatever it's doing without compression? i.e. appear just like the original file

Yes, there seems to have been a downgrade in quality but I don't know when this happened. I make my own art for things and the quality is often spoiled and shows compression artifacts
