Problems With Live TV Recordings Stopping Early

Recommended Posts

The problem remains. I tried to Create a Recording using the Channel and Time method and got about the first 16 minutes of the 2 hours scheduled.

I know that I can get  pauses/buffering on my Live TV streams on occasion. While this is not always occurring during the premature termination of recordings (I've seen this happen while watching a perfectly fine stream), it may be happening some of the time. Would the recording abruptly terminate if there is a playback error or pause due to buffering or is the DVR function resilient to degradation in the Live TV stream? If so would it be possible to code the DVR function so that it would just record the pause or "offlined" stream (due to playback error)?

Ok, I tried a few recordings. The first was a 3 hour one that completed properly (first time I've seen that in a while). The start date and time for this recording was 11/27 at 10:00.  The second terminated at 2:17 into an 8 hour scheduled recording. The start time for it was 11/29 at 03:00. Logs are attached. Let me know what else you need. I'd really like to get to the bottom of this aand find some sort of workaround.

I don't know if there have been changes but I was able to get another full 3hr recording to complete properly. Then tonight I set the recording for 3.5hrs and got 3 (I'm not 100% sure I set the recording properly for 3.5 hrs or if somehow I set it for the scheduled 3 hr time for the show and not the extra 30 minutes). Anyway at worst I'm 50/50 for the last 4 recordings completing correctly which is the best results I've ever seen. I'm running 4.9.1.90 on a manually updated Synology package. Were any changes made or did I just get lucky(ish)?. I've attached the log for tonights 3.5 hr scheduled recording (3 hrs completed). Do you see anything here?

Which one stopped early?

My Nov 29 post has the logs that had the 1 recording that I know terminated early. It terminated at 2:17 into an 8 hour scheduled recording. The start time for it was 11/29 at 03:00.

I'm not positive that the recording on Dec 11 of 3 hours terminated early. The Alerts section of the dashboard stated "Recording of Thursday Night Football - has completed on Kashmir 12/11/25, 10:00 PM" which suggests to me that I did not set the schedule correctly for 3.5 hours and that the recording was good. The log for that recording was posted on Dec 11.

This would mean that 3 of the last 4 recordings have completed properly with only 1 recording terminating early.

Did you guys do anything with the last update to correct the issue(s) I was having or am I just lucky?

Ok, I set a recording for 3.5 hrs today and again it worked! I wish I knew if this was due to  work on the server code or an improvement in terms of stream reliability from my IPTV provider or if I'm just getting a lucky streak here. Regardless, this is most definitely a huge improvement.

It looks like I was maybe just lucky. Tonight I had a scheduled 4hr recording terminate 00:06:50 from the start (set for 17:15 Sat Dec 20). Log attached.
