tOLJY 49 Posted April 11, 2025 Posted April 11, 2025 Audio/subtitle selection needs to be done for every episode of a show - is there any we can select this for a whole series? Ie. Choose audio track 3 and subtitle track 7 for a series at the series level and have emby go with that? Obviously this can have some issues, but assuming all files in the series are of the same encoding/release group it might be okay? For reference, I'm about to start watching DBZ Kai in Japanese, from files that have Japanese as the default, great, but next year about I would like to watch it again in English with my young son and not have to select English as the language for every single episode as it starts. 1
Luke 42078 Posted April 12, 2025 Posted April 12, 2025 Hi, we do already remember audio and subtitle selections across the series, although it's not based on track numbers. It looks for tracks with the same language as the one you previously played.
Luke 42078 Posted April 12, 2025 Posted April 12, 2025 It's not perfectly implemented in the 4.8.11 release, and there are improvements to it in the 4.9 beta channel.
tOLJY 49 Posted April 12, 2025 Author Posted April 12, 2025 Ah I see, I am on 4.8.8 in any case. Is there an update on when 4.9 may finish beta?
Luke 42078 Posted April 12, 2025 Posted April 12, 2025 I don't have an ETA, but we're working hard on it. Thanks. 1

As I and others have reported in other threads, subtitle selection ('off,' for example) in one episode is not reflected when starting to play subsequent episodes. This behavior continues in 4.8.11.

You need to have the option selected to remember tracks. As I said, in the 4.8 release there are issues with it in certain situations. It's been improved on the 4.9 beta channel.
nospotify 184 Posted April 12, 2025 Posted April 12, 2025 (edited) @Luke The language next to that option in the subtitle settings screen says "will be reapplied when playing the same video again" not "applied to the whole series" or "subsequent videos in the series." Correct. It doesn't mention it. We should obviously update that text to indicate it, or break it out to a separate option. But for now it's just activated silently.
nospotify 184 Posted April 12, 2025 Posted April 12, 2025 @LukeWhatever the info copy says, it isn't working in 4.8.11 on any video series to continue with "subtitles off" or with a specific subtitle "on" selection. That's not "not working perfectly," it's not working at all.
Luke 42078 Posted April 12, 2025 Posted April 12, 2025 HI, yes as I mentioned it's been improved in the upcoming 4.9 release. Thanks.
Luke 42078 Posted April 12, 2025 Posted April 12, 2025 We're going to be doing a 4.8.12 maintenance release, so we'll get these updates backported to that. Thanks. 1
