chaseclay496 0 Posted April 10, 2025 Posted April 10, 2025 I'm currently using Emby on a low-bandwidth connection and facing occasional buffering and quality drops. I'm wondering if there are any recommended settings or tweaks to improve streaming performance in such environments. Some specific questions I have: Is there a preferred transcoding setup for limited internet speeds? Are there bitrate or resolution settings that work best? Can hardware acceleration make a difference on lower-end systems? I’d really appreciate any tips or tricks that have worked for others in a similar situation. Thanks in advance!
Jdiesel 1431 Posted April 10, 2025 Posted April 10, 2025 The best solution is always to avoid transcoding all together. On a bandwidth limited server this means hosting reduced bitrate files. Many people have had luck with low bitrate h265 encodes. There is software, Tdarr and Unmanic, that can automatically do this for you. If hosting low bitrate files isn't practical then you will have to rely on transcoding. H265 transcoding is in early beta and only supported on the web app right now but eventually this might be a good solution. 2Mbps h265 1080p encodes can be adequate for most people.
