Recorded TV format? Even Nvidia Sheild has to transcode?

I just upgraded to a Sheild over Roku ulta (and I LOVE IT).  I always assumed that my recorded TV had to transcode for Roku due to some licensing for MPEG that Roku doesnt have. 

Sheild seems to have codecs for EVERYTHING but it still has to transcode watching shows that i record off my HD antenna.  

File type is shown as HEVC  MPEG-TS.   Surely there's some format that Emby could record in that could support direct play to at least high-end devices?
