Can't connect to Emby via local IP address (works using localhost)

I've got a strange issue. I've been reconfiguring my home network to organize things and assigned my server PC a static IP address. I updated the local IP address on Emby's network page and restarted Emby server, but I cannot access the server using that IP. The Emby splash logo pops up and it just hangs there. If I use localhost instead of the IP address it works, but I typically do my configurations from another PC on the network, so that won't work long-term.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Might this be your problem?

Unfortunately, no. That was the first thing I fixed when I made the changes. One thing to note: Emby is the only service I am having this issue with. Everything else, including Plex, works fine with the new address.

Keep in mind that Plex has a relay service that kicks in automatically when a direct connection isn't possible, and this routes everything through their own servers. So that might be fooling you into thinking that it's working with them but you may still have the same issue.

Why did you do this? This should be limited to very specific situations only. Is your LAN ip address regularly changing? I would set a static IP in your router settings to prevent that from happening.

I did set the static IP on my router. I just made the change manually in Emby's settings to make sure everything matched up.

When you manually customize it, you're on the hook to keep it up to date when things change in your network. If you forget to do that, then you'll probably be back here telling us that Emby apps are no longer connecting. That's why it's best to let the server detect your LAN address automatically and only set it if you have some specific condition requiring it (e.g. multiple subnets).

I would try clearing browsing data and seeing if that helps.

We need to see logs - as we have no idea what you have changed on your network.

The fact localhost 'works suggests emby is listening on the correct port

try temporarily disabling the windows firewall on the emby server - if you have changed the lan, then the rule which was previously created by emby may no longer be valid - but from memory it 'should' be local LAN - it doesn't usually specify an actual rfc1918 LAN address.

It could be an incorrect subnet ?

Worth trying a powershell commend to query emby from the remote machine

ie in powershell

test-netconnection <your_emby_ip> -port 8096

First check - is the network interface set to "public" (wrong) or "private" (correct).
