Exclude certain episodes from up next

Hi,

Seen a few posts on this subject but not sure where we are now on it after some time.

My "Up Next" fills up with load of TV series I'm not watching. This is because at certain times of the year I have playlists playing different episodes from different series. For example Christmas themed episodes. This fills up my up next section with the next episode after the Christmas episode.

 

Any way to exclude just those episodes from up next.

HI, if you use the metadata editor on these specials, do they have values filled out for "airs before season/episode" ?

Emby's method of selecting what is "Up next" is flawed but i do not see a better way. They assume that any played episode, in fact the furthest forward played episode has the next episode as next up. That is if I play S01E10 and S03E03 of the same series then S03E04 becomes "next up." In fact even if I play S02E01 and S01E02 after I play these S03E04 remains Next up. 

I had a long involved discussion about this "logic" but nothing was really resolved and their arguments were quite reasonable as, I believe, were mine. But you post made me think again and the nature of your question namely "Playlists" makes me think of another solution: That is have a Playlist that does not mark episodes "watched." Since i do not currently use playlists I do not know is that is viable.

I think that does not address the problem as many shows have "Christmas" specials that are not marked as specials but rather are regular SxxExx type episodes that originally aired near Christmas. 
But, since it is playlists being used maybe my idea of having a Playlist flagged as "do not mark played" would do the job. 
IAs I said I have a way that I can play episodes out of order but it is probably not valid for this. What I do is when I play "out of order" episode that I do not want marked as played I, as soon as it finishes, mark it un watched. But I think that method is not workable in a playlist as I always play from the actual library if I want to watch episodes out of order.

To the OP: Collections instead of playlists might work better as I think it is possible to mark and entire collection as unwatched.

My methods of using Emby are not standard and are possibly not applicable to this at all and I do not want to even try to say that my way is better. It is simply different. I am one of the apparent few that use Next up Legacy instead of the regular Next up. I fought for that and we had some arguments about it. I like the way Emby works now and I do understand that my desires do not really reflect the majority. But this seems fixable by only adding one feature to playlists so, by user choice, do not mark played content as played from that playlist.
