JoeAverage92 6 Posted April 6, 2025 Posted April 6, 2025 Hello, I am not sure if this is the correct place for this post but it would be very nice to have an option to configure a 3DLUT in Emby. Indeed, MPV can use a 3DLUT with target-lut=<file> in mpv.conf and it works fine. We could have have this parameter in the Video Options, for instance.
softworkz 5066 Posted April 6, 2025 Posted April 6, 2025 Yes, MPV can do that, but the purpose of this MPV feature is to allow color management/corrections on systems that do not have a integrated desktop-wide color-management implementation - like Windows has. When you create a color profile for a display, you normally want to use that profile for all applications on that computer (unless the OS isn't capable of doing that). Using a 3DLut in MPV on Windows would require you to disable color management on Windows entirely. As a result, the whole desktop and all other apps wouldn't have colors adapted to your display anymore. This hardly makes sense for anybody. I recommend to properly set up Windows color management instead, or convert your LUT to an ICC profile and apply it to your display in Windows settings.
JoeAverage92 6 Posted April 6, 2025 Author Posted April 6, 2025 Thank you for the reply. I would like to replicate in Emby the settings of MadVR+MPC-BE with my projector: exclusive mode (to reduce microstutter) + 3DLUT (color correction). If Emby does not use Exclusive mode, I guess that I will have to rely on the External Player option (even if I would prefer an integrated solution).

Recent Windows versions have made substantial advancements in color management and refresh rate synchronization. The use of exclusive display mode for video playback is deprecated and no longer needed for achieving the benefits you mention. MPV development is following this path.
