Updated to latest version. No more external players?

I cant find the external player settings. I only reinstalled because emby theatre refused to startup.

Hi, what version number do you have?

The current windows store version. Logo with no option to not show it. Multiple animations slowing everything down for no reason.
Cannot find any option to specify an external player.

Now just a black screen with emby on it. Multiple computers, restarted server no difference.

 

How do I roll back to previous version so I can just watch a movie?

I dont want to use the new app.I could not find emby theatre. I already downloaded the desktop all in the link multiple times.
New app = grey screen and nothing else.

Old app black screen with logo and nothing else. No changes at all on my side. Rebooted server, no changes.

Downloaded https://github.com/MediaBrowser/emby-theater-windows/releases = black screen with logo, multiple PCS.

C:\Users\SSSS\AppData\Roaming
renamed electron folder, emby-theater, emby theater. 

On run of 3.0.20, electron folder created, dictionaries sub folder created and nothing else.
Emby Theater folder created , dictionaries sub folder created and nothing else. no files, no cache folder, nothing at all

Can you still access the server using a browser?

Accessing via browser is fine on local server and LAN machines.
unzipping emby theatre folder to multiple drives and locations results in same - black screen with logo
Local and remote machines, localhost, all same, black screen.

Started happening yesterday and today.  Emby Server 4.8.11.0

Emby Theater 3.0.10 same result, black screen + logo

Machines restarted multiple times = no change

I had uninstalled this version - but I just reinstalled it and got the same issue.

I NEED MY MPC-HC.x64

I was disappointed to see the use of external video players was eliminated in the new Emby Theater version. When I play back

my 4K HDR movies in the Microsoft Store version of Emby Theater it does not compare to the quality of the video when 

played back with MPC-HC and Mad VR plus other tweaks I've learned after years in setting up my HTPC. To the powers

that be, please bring back the ability to use external player.   Thanx.

Again just to clarify, it wasn't removed. The windows store version never had it in the first place. It will get added, but until that happens you can still use the downloaded desktop app:

If 3.0.20 is fixed with an update why does it have the same version number a dated May 9, 2023?

On one computer it has defaulted to web version, another it is fine. How o i get it back to emby theatre desktop version?

Edit: Al settings were reset, change the type to desktop.

What was the cause of this issue?

External player is not working for me. Keeps using internal player. Emby server restarted, theater restarted, same no external player launching, Path is correct.

Deleted and readded. Now lauching  but have to remember how to pass path to emby

For anyone facing this issue.

Close and restart emby theatre several times and its not syncing properly. Once done, add external player. Then COPY AND PASTE the (path) to the external player config box. Then it works.

I cant edit but when I stated path I was referring to the {path} in curly brackets shown under the command line parameters. For some reason typing it into the box manually didn't work. Copying and pasting did.

I just wanted to say how much i enjoy using Emby, its a fantastic platform! I recently tried out Emby Theater and really liket it, right before the dark screen logo started appering.

I'm really looking forward to the return of external player support, as my MPC setup is a big part of my ideal viewing experience. Once that feature is back, i'm fully committed to purchasing the Emby P lifetime license. 

Using Emby T 3.0.20 external player works fine, but i wish you can add it to Emby windows version 2.222.2.0.

@Luke you posted a link to download the old Theater app but when I run that application it just launches into effectively what looks like a browser session. It's not even slightly close to Theater.

Is that what we can expect? Or hopefully something is wrong with my computer! I'm super disappointed in whatever is going on with this latest version.

What was special about emby Theater was that it was perfect for sitting on the couch. It worked like a Roku or other streaming device. Whatever this latest iteration is requires a keyboard and mouse to use. I honestly don't see the difference in the app and just opening a browser window other than the new splash screen.

At the absolute least I need external players option back. Aside from that there is also no option for pass thru audio anymore. So the player is totally useless to me. I have to browse my library, find what I want and then launch it from a network share through file explorer. I honestly don't understand why Theater needed to change. This feels like a massive step backward.

Did you enable TV display mode in the app settings?

When you first setup the app it asks you if you want to enable it on the second screen, right after the welcome screen.

Hi Luke, is the true-hd bug still on your list of things to fix?

I tried the new app again and audio dropped out so went back to 3.0.20.

This was also an issue with 3.0.20 buts its easier to replace mpv-1.dll than the new app.

There is a new mpv build weekly on the plex forums that incorporates the fix and provides the latest mpv verstion. Can Emby not do the same?
