I've got the splash screen hang as well.  Was working fine yesterday.  There were no server updates or theater updates.  Is ET phoning home and causing the hang?  Do I have to use the Windows Store version now?

The web client works just fine.

ET version: 3.0.21.0

Server version: 4.8.11.0

OK, I installed the Microsoft Store version 2.222.2.0 and it seems to be working fine.  In general the UI looks the same with a new splash screen but the App Settings configuration has a lot of changes.  The install location is now under the Program Files\Windows Apps folder instead of the AppData\Roaming folder.  It also appears that this version doesn't use Electron.

I'll give this version a thorough test drive and see how I like it.

@LukeIs this now the official release of ET or will the original version still be supported (3.0.21.0 and later)?

BTW, I'm also using a custom build of the mpv.dll with Dolby TrueHD fixes (pops and skips) which is now located at the root of the EmbyTheater folder.

That isn't a solution because, as I specifically said, this is an HTPC and you don't login to them or use a mouse to interact with it.

Agreed, ET creates a very familiar interface for long time users of HTPC's  I don't want to have to pick up any mouse to use or interact with, and it's NOT the 10 ft interface that Bill Gates introduced with WMC, Emby Theatre was perfect.

If this is Embys attempt to force us onto the new version, then it's back to Kodi I go.

Well, I knew this was going to be an issue.  Since the Windows Store version of ET installs in the WindowsApp folder it has special TrustedInstaller rights and can't be modified even with administrator rights so copying an updated mpv.dll is not possible.  Not sure what to do at this point.

I am having this too. Even if you leave it open an hour nothing happens. As far as I can tell, when you open it, it tries to connect to 173.230.139.54:443(tv.emby.media) and gets a response. Then I can't catch it doing any other network traffic after that. Accessing tv.emby.media in a browser just brings up Emby Connect

I think you are correct.  When I redirect tv.emby.media (173.230.139.54) to localhost (127.0.0.1) it hangs ET with no splash screen at all.  So it must be related to EmbyConnect services.

Wouldn't this cause a problem with the Android app, which is currently unaffected?

@scottproboot with a Linux usb and replace mpv.dll with the fixed Truehd version.

I can boot into safe mode if needed but it's just more of a inconvenience to update.

I think Windows (non-store) version of ET is the only app that is affected by this issue.  The web client, iOS and other apps work fine with the localhost redirect.

The new store version is now the only supported Windows client.  The old electron-based desktop client remains available for download while the new client is missing some features (e.g. external players), but will have no further development.

Same. Worked fine last night. Hangs on splash screen this morning.

So confused on how Emby Theater even updates. There's no indication when it does or a way to control it.

They better fix this soon or I'm finally switching to Jellyfin. I paid a premium membership precisely to avoid this kind of thing, I just wanted to set it up once for my family and forget about it forever, and I was hoping Emby would provide this. If I'm going to have to be tinkering for it to work then I don't see the point.

It appears I spoke to soon as ET is once again hanging on the splash screen for me. It worked for a bit last night but this morning it is back to hanging.

Same problem here. Emby Theater crashed on second launch and refuses to load since then.

If i click on the Electron icon showing up on the taskbar i get the following... Nothing suspicious in AppData\Roaming\Emby-Theater\logs.

I don't want to use the native Windows app as it is not compatible with external players and i need MPC-BE to enjoy MadVR on my projector.

WOW.

I didn't know you couldn't modify apps from the windows store... That's some horseshit that I will never tolerate.

I've hated pretty much every change Microshaft has made since win 11+ and that's pushed me to purge windows from my systems and move to Debian.

I tend to just use the web app on PC. If I was forced to use the windows store version, I'd move to Jellyfin first.

ah yes, i thought it's only my end
the ET is the only saving grace for me, to implement custom mpv-1.dll (for SVP, so i can go full high FPS) hope it will fixed soon

Hi guys, sorry the fix got reverted somehow. It's on it's way up again. Apologies for the disruption. Thanks.

How do we force it to update? The setup file is missing from the Emby Theater page now(Which is how I used to force the updates) and it is not updating when I launch it.
