Unwanted Metadata.... unable to remove

I am unable to get a fresh install of Emby Server working properly on my PC. Previously, I had it installed on my Terramaster F5-221 (media is still stored there), but I recently purchased a mini-PC for better performance.

My goal is to have no metadata at all. My original installation achieved this without any issues. However, I decided to experiment with metadata settings and later attempted to return to my original setup with no metadata—meaning no images, descriptions, or other related data.

To accomplish this, I unchecked all metadata settings and refreshed my library. When that didn't work, I deleted entire folders and images, uninstalled and reinstalled Emby, deleted my Windows user account, created a new one, and reinstalled again. Despite multiple attempts, nothing has resolved the issue.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, do you have any suggestions beyond what I’ve already tried? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, that will prevent future metadata but it may not remove what’s already there, especially if it got written into nfo files. You may just want to remove the library and add it back.

there is also the function to remove identification but there’s no function to do that on the entire library all at once.

Removed the library and created a new one, but the issue persists. Each media file has an associated .nfo in its folder. Following AI guidance, I deleted some .nfo files, but also discovered .jpg files in some directories. Deleted both .nfo and .jpg files, then restarted the PC, Emby, and rescanned the library while refreshing metadata—yet descriptions still remain.

As a test, I copied media files into a new folder, and suddenly the descriptions disappeared. What a mess! Thankfully, this only affects about 20% of my library. Any additional input would be appreciated.

Now that you've deleted those, I would remove and recreate the library again. That should do it.

It worked! Thanks for engaging with me.

Here's the deal—I’ve been using Emby for about four years, but metadata has always been a mystery to me. I never really understood how to make it accurate. Last night, while deleting some files, I had a thought: What if I actually tried to understand how metadata works in Emby? What settings should I use? What would happen if I dug deeper into the process?

Well, I opened myself up to the possibilities, and wouldn’t you know it—I changed my mind! I realized I could make it work. It’s going to take a lot of effort to clean up those files and get the metadata organized, but I’ve decided to go all in. I tested a few things, experimented with file naming, adjusted some settings, and now I’m fully committed to using metadata. So far, so good!

I do need to delete NFO files and rename others. I’ve heard there are programs that can help automate the process—FileBot and TinyMediaManager are two options. Do you have any other suggestions? Other suggestions on learning how to utilize metadata? I’m fully embracing metadata now—how’s that for a switch?!
