alanpeil64 2 Posted March 31, 2025 Posted March 31, 2025 I haven't used Emby in quite a while but want to go back to using it. I updated the server on my Synology NAS, but get this message when trying to play anything.Pretty sure I've updated my permissions correctly. Server log attached here. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you. embyserver.txt
Solution Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 31, 2025 Solution Posted March 31, 2025 (edited) And if you enable all the option you disabled to try and force direct play does it play? 2025-03-31 10:12:45.380 Info App: User policy for Alan. EnablePlaybackRemuxing: False EnableVideoPlaybackTranscoding: False EnableAudioPlaybackTranscoding: False Can only guess there is something specific to the file that is not direct playable via Firefox. "Restricting access to transcoding will disable quality selection and may cause playback failures in Emby apps due to unsupported media formats or insufficient network bandwidth." alanpeil64 2 Posted March 31, 2025 Author Posted March 31, 2025 Thank you, that was indeed it. When I enable transcoding for that user it will play back. If I enable transcoding, will it be transcoding all the time or only when needed?

Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 31, 2025 Posted March 31, 2025 Just now, alanpeil64 said: Thank you, that was indeed it. When I enable transcoding for that user it will play back. If I enable transcoding, will it be transcoding all the time or only when needed? Only when needed as every client has different playback capabilities. You would need to look at Nerd Stats during playback or the ffmpeg log to see why transcoding is needed. 1
alanpeil64 2 Posted March 31, 2025 Author Posted March 31, 2025 And where can I find the ffmpeg logs?
