There's going to be two opinions on everything when it comes to design. You like the small background, others like the full. MBski likes the text under the thumbs, and I find the text unnecessary and distracting in enhanced view. I'm more concerned about missing functions that affect playback though.
crusher11 1101 Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 Hiding the backdrop behind all the other content on the home screen looks weird, and it's not obvious that the backdrop connects to the title/description. ATV clearly ties the two together and looks nicer while doing it. Is there no way to get posters on the item detail screen in the Android app?

crusher11 1101 Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 I much prefer the enhanced home screen of the ATV app. It clearly ties the backdrop to the title/description, and displays most of the backdrop clearly. The Android one just changes the entire backdrop, most of it is obscured by the actual contents of the home screen which makes the whole thing overly busy and with many backdrops the upper right corner just looks weirdly empty. 1
FrostByte 5392 Posted September 27, 2022 Author Posted September 27, 2022 (edited) I'll have to disagree then. My backdrops look really good behind My Media now that the buttons are transparent. Edited September 27, 2022 by FrostByte
FrostByte 5392 Posted September 27, 2022 Author Posted September 27, 2022 @arrbee99 idea of restricting the backdrop to the whole top area isn't bad though. To me that looks better than having a little box on the right side. You could even darken the left side some like I've seen before if needed. I don't think you can use banners though as not everyone will have them. So, you might need to bring it down a little in order to not stretch the image. 2

I think it has to be either fullscreen or top right. Going all the way across the top will require either significant cropping or distortion, and people are not going to like that. 1
arrbee99 1815 Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 To me, ebr's top right corner and the new(?) full page thing don't really work. Ebr's only really works well with dark / black themes as the blurry borders aren't so good with lighter / coloured themes. The full page view to me needs (whitish/ pale greyish) borders around everything otherwise the thumbs or whatever on top merge into the backdrop, half of which you can't see anyway. Do think a semi-transparent background for thumbs would help though (if possible). So a banner (plug, plug) shows art we seldom get to see and doesn't interfere with any other artwork. But true, banners can be pretty thin on the ground for some people and some media. The War of the World illustration above looks good to me, though admittedly sometimes it won't work for some art, but then again they've all got some sort of compromise.
ebr 16169 Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 I took my design straight from Netflix and it isn't just the top corner you can see. The backdrop does actually go behind the row and the text somewhat with a fade so that it is still prominent but mostly out of the way (and also feels integrated with the screen as long as there is plenty of content).

I would love it if you could click on the movie/series to watch. It has happened to me twice, and will be a few times more, that I thought to myself "oh right, I wanted to see it :-)" and then I had to look for the film first, like in the old days. 1
