hamzanadim 5 Posted March 29, 2025 Posted March 29, 2025 (edited) Hello guys , I'm connecting my laptop to my Samsung Q80R TV using HDMI cable Samsung TV is connected to Samsung Onebar Q990D (which supports most audio including TrueHD 7.1 Atmos) using eARC, the problem is i try playing some content that are in TrueHD however it gets transcoded to DolbyDigital, in order to analyze where the problem is coming from , i downloaded that exact content from Emby and played it using the Windows Movies & TV app which can passthrough audio and the result is that my Soundbar decodes it as Dolby TrueHD with no problem and plays perfectly which leaves me with the only conclusion is that perhaps there is something im missing on the Emby Windows App or it the windows version of the app doesn't support that. can you guys please advice ? many thanks in advance NOTE : the only settings in the Emby windows app that i can see is this option and i checked all of them here are the content STATS Edited March 29, 2025 by hamzanadim more clarification
visproduction 315 Posted March 29, 2025 Posted March 29, 2025 Very similar question. Passing Dolby Atmos is discussed.
lorac 118 Posted March 29, 2025 Posted March 29, 2025 I see the same thing. The old ET doesn't have an issue playing Dolby Atmos and you can still use it with a remote. I will say the UI of the new version looks nicer.

hamzanadim 5 Posted March 30, 2025 Author Posted March 30, 2025 im not sure but remember i downloaded the same file from emby and played it directly from my PC and it did indeed have Dolby Atmos
Guest Posted March 30, 2025 Posted March 30, 2025 (edited) I think @softworkz has a hard limit set when probing the audio devices. The device capabilities are probed through the HDMI, and with soundbars, that has resulted in varying results. Theater didn't probe, it lets mpv handle everything, which is why it works. This will need to be checked once again. My opinion would be to let mpv handled it. It does it better. The server thinks your soundbar (based on the probe result), doesn't support truehd. It probably thinks it's ARC not eARC. Along the same lines, you also have an AC3 audio track. Why the app isn't switching to that instead of transcoding is confusing. Seems it would a logical choice to make if its available. The video stuff in the previous comments are irrelevant. They aren't even the vo in use. This is all about the Emby backend audio config. You've shown that it plays correctly in other players. So WASAPI supports your hardware capabilities. Edited March 30, 2025 by generiq
nicko84 71 Posted March 31, 2025 Posted March 31, 2025 Hello, I've you tried to disable audio transcoding in user profile ?

This is why you're not getting passthrough. We need to learn why this is happening. Have you explored the stats feature in the video player to learn why?

hamzanadim 5 Posted April 3, 2025 Author Posted April 3, 2025 im really thankful for all of your comments guys , i really appreciate it. im not a pro but i believe i have a fairly good background developing apps on different platform. ive exhausted all the available options on Emby and there are simply no more (hidden options that would enable Dolby TrueHD 7.1 id be really curious if any of the users managed to get it out of Emby. for the past 2 weeks i have tried the following apps Emby Web (Windows) Emby Mobile (Android) Emby Samsung TV Emby Android TV Emby Xbox none of them played Dolby TrueHD 7.1 even though it would play it perfectly on a different app (with the same setup) the sad thing is EVERY Emby on EVERY platform that ive tried has a completely different interface and a set of different options (that arent even platform related) as much i appreciate everyones feedback but i simply dont have those options that you guys are refereeing to ! we would all love it if the developers of the app would prioritize unifying the interface across platforms , it would truly take Emby to the next level. thank you guys so much

You will need server transcoding for those. Our Android apps can handle it directly though.
hamzanadim 5 Posted April 3, 2025 Author Posted April 3, 2025 you are correct sir , but i tried both Emby Web Windows (which i learnt that it doesnt pass TrueHD) but i also tried Emby Windows app (from microsoft store) also doesnt pass TrueHD

Emby Android doesnt play Dolby TrueHD at all but (totally mute) but movie runs however when i activate that option and i play the movie from Emby to KODI PLAYER , it works just fine

(exclusive audio enabled, Emby Windows Store app) Could you please post a log file from that, as in your mpv log above, exclusive audio was not enabled. Thanks
