RLanger7228 73 Posted March 27, 2025 Posted March 27, 2025 I recently discovered that Emby CAN support E-books and PDFs, but that the only way to "consume" this content is to download the file & open it with a native reader on your device. While this is not an insurmountable barrier, it would certainly be more convenient to simply open the book or PDF in an Emby Native reader. Even a quick-view type of reader would allow a user to peruse the item when browsing, without needing to fully download it & open it in separate software. Additionally, it took me a little research to discover how a user could utilize e-book content, rather than the intuitive "click to use" format of other media presented on Emby. A brief, explicit instruction sentance on the opening page might be helpful when opening an E-book library. Conversely, that instruction would not be needed if Emby were to add a native reader. Another option to consider is to offer to somehow connect Emby to various E-readers directly (perhaps in the main e-book library settings section), so clicking an item will download the item directly into a specific reader (depending of course, on what that reader would allow. For example, Kindle allows a user to upload books by sending them to an account specific e-mail address). This may be an option preferable to people who have grown attached to their reader of choice. This would also prevent Emby developers from having to re-invent the wheel & code an entirely new reader. A "quick-view" reader would still be helpful for browsing. It could be a separate option "Quick-View", to be included with "download to selected reader" & simply "download to device download folder".
