soodanim 1 Posted March 26, 2025 Posted March 26, 2025 Good day, This one's a little odd to try and describe, so I'll do my best. I've got a number of 'motorsport' episodes that are broken down into three parts; I believe the naming structure is quite clean. As an example S2025E10 - 01.pre-race S2025E10 - 02.race S2025E10 - 03.post-race [I've messed around with the filenames to reflect S2025E10a, b, & c etc. The issue remains. The issue I'm having is that all three parts show up for the Administrator in the Version drop-down box (when on the episode page); and media information is displayed for all three parts. Everything is as I would want it to be. However, when viewing the same episode page as a User, one or two of the parts are not shown. This is a User on the local system, as is the Administrator (ie. both are local accounts at home, but for obvious reasons, I don't want the Admin account as the primary). There are NO filters or tags applied that would exclude some of the parts. If I were to name the three parts as individual episodes, they are recognized, and played (albeit wrongly associated to the episode obviously). I don't want to "Split Versions Apart" and show them as separate parts as I would then have to edit the titles for all of them etc. Any idea why this is happening, and what I can do to have it appear for the User as it does for the Administrator? Thank you

GrimReaper 4739 Posted March 26, 2025 Posted March 26, 2025 (edited) Envy doesn't support (yet) episode file stacking (multi-part episodes), so what is actually occurring is multi-versioning/merging, i.e. Emby seeing each of those parts as same episode (S2025E10 in your example) in effect, so suffixes (a, b or c or - 1, - 2 or - 3) practically serve no purpose for identifying except to allow for easier distinction by yourself/UI presentation. With no tags or filters, first thing that comes to mind re: User not seeing all versions would be folder access control, but not knowing your filefolder structure/naming, library setup/paths or user access rights, that's guesswork only. Could you share few screenshots of those? Edit: Which server version you're running? Edited March 26, 2025 by GrimReaper Append
soodanim 1 Posted March 26, 2025 Author Posted March 26, 2025 I'll do my best to answer, but my apologies if I don't hit on the right things... Thank you for your time in trying to help. Folders under the menu item Library) essentially points directly to the root of this Folder: \\[ServerName]\Formula 1 User Rights:
Luke 42077 Posted March 26, 2025 Posted March 26, 2025 Hi, if the user has restrictions by tags then there’s an issue with multi version in 4.8. It’s resolved in the 4.9 beta channel. but if this is about multi part then grim reaper is right. Thanks.
GrimReaper 4739 Posted March 26, 2025 Posted March 26, 2025 Thanks for that. For user access, not that screenshot but Access tab up top (next tab from that screen, which is "Profile" tab). @Luke 1 hour ago, soodanim said: There are NO filters or tags applied
soodanim 1 Posted March 26, 2025 Author Posted March 26, 2025 Forgot to include the actual filenames... and no restrictions by tags for user - or more clearly, the files here are NOT tagged, and the only tag restriction is in one instance for a different show.
soodanim 1 Posted March 26, 2025 Author Posted March 26, 2025 Under Parental Control Tab, this is the only 'filter' or restriction - I have one show that I've tagged as Filtered so it doesn't appear for the User.

Maybe "Home Videos & Photos" content type library would suit you better (though you'd have no online providers' metadata/artwork in that case).

soodanim 1 Posted March 27, 2025 Author Posted March 27, 2025 Thank you for your assistance; but would correcting this potentially fix the issue? I suppose these screenshots don't really shed any additional light on the issue, but the Administrator login works without issues as you can see in the drop down whereas, if I immediately swap over to the User account, I get this: It's not clear to me why in one instance it works, but not in the other... file structure, folder naming aside. Thank you

Not sure what you're referring to: 1) if library content-type: you'd see exact replica of your filesystem structure within Emby but with no online providers' metadata, as said above 2) if restructuring/renaming: potentially (but it just as well might not), as with current naming/structure is hard to guess what's actually occurring - though tbh, I don't see any apparent reason why some versions are not appearing to the user whilst they do appear for admin, I'd more expect issues with identifying those versions in the first place than with access.

Thank you Luke for re-iterating. To be clear for anyone else that might experience this, essentially having just that one unrelated restriction by tag was the cause of this. I had [TVShow] tagged as "Filtered" - ie. wasn't appropriate for the kids, and didn't want it shown for the User account. Under Parental Controls settings for the User, I had then identified "Filtered" under Restrict Items with Tags. (Yes, I wasn't more creative with the tagging ID...). This effectively hid [TVShow] from the User account; but I didn't realize this was also causing the other issue identified here with Parts/Versions not appearing for a completely unrelated, and untagged show (Formula 1) I just removed the 'rule' from Restrict Items with Tags (ie. removed "Filtered" as a restricted item), and the Parts/Versions re-appeared for the User! Thank you for everyone's persistence in helping out with this, it was bothering me to no end! 1
