beefsnack 16 Posted March 25, 2025 Posted March 25, 2025 Just noticed is it me or does Emby have difficulty playing .ASS sub files? Because I can't get them to be seen, SRT, SDH, CC ect. all work fine just the (.ass) subtitle format form doesn't seem to work at all, anything I need to do here? Do I need a plugin to allow it to be seen? I'm assuming due to the fact they are burned into the file maybe? TIA Beef

If they were burned into the file they would always be visible. But just like your other post devs will need specific examples. 3 hours ago, Luke said: Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!

Luke 42078 Posted March 26, 2025 Posted March 26, 2025 @beefsnack what can we do to make that easier so that you can provide the necessary information?
visproduction 315 Posted March 26, 2025 Posted March 26, 2025 I've noticed that often .ass files that come in .mkv media are missing the "0," before the time on each subtitle line. When I try copy out the .ass file from the embedded media and then click to open, it fails and shows that it is incorrectly formatted file for my subtitle editing software, Aegisub 3.2.2. That means this particular software doesn't like the code. I have to go in and replace all instances for a under 3 hours media like this: Dialogue: ,0 with Dialogue: 0,0 and Dialogue: ,1 with Dialogue: 0,1 and Dialogue: ,2 with Dialogue: 0,2 Then the .ass file opens correctly in Aegisub. I think this may also causes a problem with Emby playback. I have not tested it. I am guessing that this shortcut timing without "0," used inside .mkv embedded subtitles in .ass format may be causing Emby to not recognize the .ass file. Anyone with a problem .ass file, just have a look at the file. Does it look like this: Quote ... [Events] Format: Layer, Start, End, Style, Name, MarginL, MarginR, MarginV, Effect, Text Dialogue: ,0:01:25.09,0:01:26.64,Default,,0,0,0,,Fanny? beefsnack 16 Posted March 27, 2025 Author Posted March 27, 2025 My problem is I run both plex and emby for just outdated TVs for ppl, Obviously no problem in plex but, when viewing in Emby nothing shows up, but there is no file to edit, the .ass is embedded in the .mkv most of the time, I can look up Aegisub to break it up to edit it, but it's a lot just to do for some subs, why I was just curious why it wasn't catching it. That's all I was looking for, I appreciate the Help now, Thank you @visproduction I'll give it a try.
Luke 42078 Posted March 31, 2025 Posted March 31, 2025 @beefsnack Please attach the server log from the time frame the activity occurred. See the section below titled Emby Server Logs. Please supply the full and complete log file in txt format. Please don't zip or compress, and avoid attempting to extract relevant sections. Everything is relevant to us. If a server transcoding log (ffmpeg log) was also generated during playback (in the server logs folder), please attach that as well.
