Media library not updating automatically

Recommended Posts

Hello, I noticed my library is not being updated automatically when a new media is added within the library folders. How do I get embryo to know when there is a new entry of media added to my nas?

for example, when I add a movie file in my movie folder "The Monkey" it is not showing up on my emby library unless I scan the folder manually. Similarly with TV shows, it doesn't scan. On Plex, when I added media, the server detects new files being uploaded and it scans automatically updating the plex library. so shouldn't it do the same on emby? Not sure what you want me to upload... is there a specific option on emby for me to change? running emby on my synology nas

Hi there, please attach the Emby server log from when the problem occurred:

Thanks!

We can only guess here without server log for a specific example.

Did you enable RTM on each library?

Since this is Synology it is notorious for inotify issues via limits that have to be adjusted.  But server log will show the error it limits have been reached.

I tried to run the task scheduler on synology but got the following error message:

Task Scheduler has completed a triggered task.

Task: Inotify fix for RTM
Start time: Mon, 24 Mar 2025 23:13:53 GMT
Stop time: Mon, 24 Mar 2025 23:13:53 GMT
Current status: 255 (Normal)
Standard output/error:
sysctl: permission denied on key 'fs.inotify.max_user_watches'
sysctl: permission denied on key 'fs.inotify.max_user_instances'

Not a Synology user but this somewhat says it all.

But first does your server log contain the mentioned error?

Directly for the logs page and download is the easier for this platform but if you ssh into your NAS then the logs folder per the link provided above.

It looks like you may not have been logged in as admin when you ran the script.  You can also reboot your NAS if you set it to run at reboot.
