Trekdriver3 12 Posted March 23, 2025 Posted March 23, 2025 Just really started using Emby, so far, so good. I'm really liking it better then the dreaded "P" word, as I get more used to it. The problem I'm having is when I close Emby, and go back later it will not open. I have found the only way to open it again is to go to Task Manager and end task for embytray and Embyserver. It's kind of like it didn't close properly or something. Remember, I'm not all that techy. Using win10 home Thanks Again For All Your Help
ebr 16184 Posted March 23, 2025 Posted March 23, 2025 Hi. Exactly what are you doing when you "close Emby"? What app on what device?
Trekdriver3 12 Posted March 23, 2025 Author Posted March 23, 2025 Just closing it like any other app on win 10. Just does not start again later. I hit the icon, the hour glass comes on for s second, then disappears. Same thing from the start menu.
ebr 16184 Posted March 23, 2025 Posted March 23, 2025 But what, exactly, are you closing? The server should be running all the time. It doesn't open and close with use and the process you referenced is a part of the server. What app are you using to access the server?
Trekdriver3 12 Posted March 23, 2025 Author Posted March 23, 2025 Here is a screen shot. I don't understand exactly what you are asking me. It's only my p.c. T.V.s are all fine. Up on top you see "Office Mark" When I hit the little X to close the window, emby does not load when I go back to it. My browser is Firefox and I use Google as my search engine. the emby Icon is in my system trey and start menu
Trekdriver3 12 Posted March 23, 2025 Author Posted March 23, 2025 I know the server is always on. I never shut my p.c. down. Someone may be watching something.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 24, 2025 Posted March 24, 2025 Little confused here but you can reopen by right clicking the system tray icon or entering localhost:8096 on host machine or LANIP:8096 on any other machine via any browser.
Trekdriver3 12 Posted March 24, 2025 Author Posted March 24, 2025 Rt. Click does not work. Like I said, the little hour glass comes up for a second, dissapears and app does not open. Run ad admn. does not work either. After closing the window, it should open when clicking the icon. What it's doing isn't normal. I mean, if I just reduce to tray, it opens of course. I'm jyat si used to "X" ing out windows.

Sorry what icon as it sounds like you are trying to launch Emby server again which will not reopen a closed web client. So when you click this what do you get? http://localhost:8096
Trekdriver3 12 Posted March 24, 2025 Author Posted March 24, 2025 Puts me right on my emby home, just like my emby icon should, but doesn't
Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 24, 2025 Posted March 24, 2025 3 minutes ago, Trekdriver3 said: Puts me right on my emby home, just like my emby icon should, but doesn't There is no Web client icon as your icon says Emby Server correct? It only starts the server and at startup there is a option to launch the client but nothing for after it is running. But have no idea why right clicking the system tray does not work for you as it opens the browser to home page or dashdoard.
Luke 42078 Posted March 24, 2025 Posted March 24, 2025 Is that X icon for the server or our windows client app?
Solution Trekdriver3 12 Posted March 24, 2025 Author Solution Posted March 24, 2025 "Happy 2 Play" gave me an idea when he asked me to click on the http://localhost:8096. That got me right in the way my icon should have. Gave me an idea, and after a bit of research, I found I could make that address into an icon. I dragged the little tiny file icon just to the very left of the already open emby site. As soon as it hit my desk top it turned into an icon, for some reason, it was an I.D.M. icon. So, I found an emby i.c.s. icon file, downloaded it. I removed the non-working one from my tray, and have a normal working desktop icon. I'm sorry that I couldn't explain the problem any better. The little "X" next to office Mark does not close anything besides an open window. Thank You for bearing with me for half the evening. I really appreciate all the help 1
