how do I get emby to show files that have been put into the folders where my library is located?

I have moved files into the folders where my library is located via file explorer.  How do I get emby to find those and then have those for playing?  How often does it check these folders if it is automatic?

Thanks

Hi there, did you try running a library scan?

Depends on if Real Time Monitoring is working on your system.  If it works about 2 minutes if not only during schedule library scans every 12 hours by default.

But if having issues we may need to see a server log for a specific example.

Thank you both.  I thought that things were not importing because when I tried to play something, I get "No compatible streams are currently available. Please try again later or contact your system administrator for details."  Since I am the system administrator, I'm kind of stuck.  It is an MKV file and the details are 1080p BluRay x265 SDR DDP 5.1 English

it plays with vlc no problem

Also how do I set up real time monitoring?

Would need a specific example with server and ffmpeg logs.

As for RTM would need to see logs to see if your need to adjust inotify limits but the setting is per library in library setup.

Thank you.  So can I clear the logs on the server, try to play the video and then take a look at them?  Is this the order?

Yes and maybe even enable debug logging.

VideoCodecNotSupported,DirectPlayError&allowVideoStreamCopy=false&allowAudioStreamCopy=false

This might be the problem...

Actually it is a permission issue with your media.

17:50:02.882 /volume2/TV.Show.Pool/Severance/Season 1/Severance (2022) S01E01 (1080p BluRay x265 SDR DDP 5.1 English - DarQ HONE).mkv: Permission denied

As the reason you posted is the reason for Transcoding and will be different per client.  As this example says Chrome does not support HEVC.

So it is a permission issue?  (synology diskstation)

Happy2Play

Not a Linux/Synology guy but first would check here.

Then you may have to recursively reset permission on /volume2/TV.Show.Pool.

So when I go in I have to select the custom and I get the first window.  When I click done, I see this check box.  After I check it and click save, I can play the video.

I hate synology...

Yes these NAS systems are notorious for issue like this depending on how media is moved around.

Thanks for the help.  It seems like when the files get moved in, they don't get the permissions from the folder and I think that this might be a problem later.  I have sonarr move stuff in so maybe I need to change something there?

Possibly but someone else would have to comment on that.

This does sound plausible, as if Sonarr is bringing them in with different permissions.

There is this in Sonarr to play with.

I don't remember ever had to play around with it.

Check out this article on permissions & inheritance.

This is also worth understanding:

  • Inheritance:
When you set permissions on a folder, those permissions are typically inherited by all subfolders and files within that folder.
  • Explicit Permissions:
You can also set explicit permissions on individual subfolders or files, overriding the inherited permissions.
  • Managing Permissions:
    • File Station: Use File Station to view and change file/folder permissions.
    • Control Panel: Go to Control Panel > Shared Folder to manage shared folder permissions.
    • Permission Inspector: Open the Permission Inspector to customize ACL permissions for a file or folder.
    • Apply to: When creating a permission entry for a folder, you can choose to apply it to the folder itself, its child folders/files, or all descendants.
  • Inherited vs. Explicit Permissions:
    • Inherited permissions will be displayed in gray.
    • Explicit permissions (or "object's own permissions") will be displayed in black.
  • Making Inherited Permissions Explicit:
    • You can make inherited permissions explicit by going to the subfolder permissions and under Advanced, you can make inherited permissions explicit.
    • After that, you can remove the inherited group(s) and add/remove specific users and adjust permissions accordingly.
