spearoid 4 Posted March 22, 2025 Posted March 22, 2025 I have a set up in my car with a Galaxy phone connected to an external display that is touch-capable, via the USB-C port on the phone. With the help of a power-through passthrough adapter I am able to use this external touchscreen as if it's a giant Android phone. All apps seem to do fine with this mirror/clone arrangement except for Emby. YouTube TV, Maps, etc...what is on the phone is what is on the external display, and I can interact with either display to do what I want. Emby only seems to treat the external display as a non-touch extended display. if I play a show or movie on Emby I lose all ability to touch the screen and interact through it. I have gestures set up that allow me to navigate all throughout Android. I typically have the phone out of sight. I tried using VLC as the external player for Emby just so I could at least do things like pause the video, but Emby doesn't seem to allow for resuming a video when using an external player. Is there anyway to tell Emby to just continue mirroring everything? It mirrors fine until I hit Play.
JoshL 19 Posted April 15, 2025 Posted April 15, 2025 When connected to an external display, Emby uses Presentation mode for playback. Presentation mode does not handle touch events on the display. Right now there's no way to disable this. But It's possible to add a setting in the app to control this behavior, i.e. continue to mirror instead of switching to presentation mode. 1
Luke 42077 Posted April 15, 2025 Posted April 15, 2025 @spearoid The big disadvantage of mirroring is that the video is no longer displayed according to the dimensions of the external screen. Instead it's confined to the dimensions of the device's screen rendered onto the external screen. If the phone is portrait and the external screen is a typical computer monitor, the mirrored display won't take up much space on the external screen. Are you saying you want that? 1
spearoid 4 Posted May 4, 2025 Author Posted May 4, 2025 I am absolutely saying I want that I already used adb to force the phone to the same resolution / aspect ratio as the external display so everything works perfectly (looks like crap on the phone of course, but this is a spare phone, used for one purpose, as the "computer" outputting video to the external display. Having a setting in the app to disable presentation mode would be a game-changer and be the finishing touch on my CarPC setup 1
spearoid 4 Posted July 1, 2025 Author Posted July 1, 2025 Hey @Lukeis this setting option something in the works or with any kind of ETA? I have checked periodically for updates but figured I would ask directly I love Emby but if this change isn't likely to happen any time soon I'm going to have to find another solution... And I really don't want to!
